Splashback as a noticeboard

Hmmmm even as I am writing this I am not sure this will work. We are renovating a house and have knocked down loads of walls and got open plan living/dining/kitchen room. Black Esse range in the fireplace. Two things currently exercising my non-stylish /non-interior-designy brain.

  1. The splashback in the chimney breast behind the range (is like an Aga, black cast iron, chrome lids. Kitchen off white shaker, smoked oak floors, black granite worktop/upright thingies). Need to think what to put there. Don't liked chequerboard like tiles. Saw some gorgeous stuff www.marlboroughtiles.com/words-word-panels-93-x-46-5-x-1-panel-great-british-puds-panel-with-diamond-decors.html but ££££ so now thinking glass
  2. I have no walls to put my indispensable blackboard - or really to paint a patch of blackboard paint. Use it to live...menu for the week/shopping/activities for the week..

So...then I thought...backboard paint as a splashback....then realised that this would not be good as chimney in a dark-ish corner so really needs something more light reflective.......so then I thought...

Use a glass splashback with whiteboard pens as a notice board.....

Have I lost it? Would this work? What colour should I go for

Arghhh...think I need wine...
Help me please....worth exploring or totally mental?

I like the idea - something bright with black markers?
but do you want to be leaning over the range to write?
the whole point of a splashback is that its easy to wipe clean, but you don't want to lose your week's menu
and your pens would dry out really quickly unless you kept them separately.....

agree with Yorky, how on earth are you going to clean it? Also if you have youngsters will they be tempted to 'play' with it an lean over a hot range.

We have a large metal panel noticeboard. Good for markers and also magnetic.
Dont know about a splashback though but maybe a non stainless/powder coated metal panel?
