installing glass bricks in internal wall

Our hall is dark and tiny (width is just 2 inches wider than the front door) and no windows. Door to toilet on one side and living room wall on the other, very cramped and annoying having to turn lights on, especially as the switch is in an inconvenient position. Been putting it off but now need to sort it out.
We're thinking about having glass bricks installed so light can come through from the sitting room. Has anyone had anything like this done?

Can you fix a glass panel above the front door so you get light from outside? That's a more traditional way of getting light in and would be quite smart?

Or even change the front door so that is had a glass, or frosted glass panel? No structural work needed at all then.

Paint it white, and hang loads of mirrors up. Glass bricks is a great, but very costly and very messy idea. We're in the same situation as you.. And have just painted the hallway white, hung a large mirror up and it looks fab. Our next plan was to replace the front door with a glass panel, but, it wouldve meant losing the lovely original stain glass effect. Do these cosmetic things first... And, if they don't work, then, do building work.

Why not have a glass panel instead, like an internal window. If you need privacy the you could frost it.

Thanks for ideas. We can't change the front door or put a glass panel in, not allowed to as its a newish build (12 yr old) house in a conservation area, lots of rules about not changing the outside appearance.
Will get estimates for sorting the lighting and switches out, large mirror and white walls definitely worth a try.

I wouldn't assume you can't put a panel above the door just because you're in a conservation area - it might be worth a phone call to the planning department to ask.
