Laying Lino/vinyl flooring myself?

I want to rip up some carpet in 2 bathrooms on my parents new flat. There is practically nowt left in the budget for the job so I'm thinking surely I can do this myself? fool that I am
Basically they are both tiny bathrooms and I know that under the carpet the floor is concrete. Do I literally rip it up and then put lino straight down onto the concrete? Do I have to stick it down with glue or anything like that?!?
I don't want to bodge it too much but I can't really afford to get a pro in at this point.
Any advice much appreciated... My dad has Parkinson's and he can't really have carpet in the bathroom because his aim is somewhat impaired as it wouldn't be hygenic.

My mum put lino down in my bathroom for me, she's good at cutting it to the right shape.
it's straight on to the concrete floor and not glued down and has been there for 7 years without budging.

what you have to make sure of is that you cut the right shape, make it nice and flush so it can't move around.
Also make sure your floor is really flat, no lumps and bumps or grid or dirt, this will wear through the flooring eventually.

If it isnt flat then the easest answer is to put down a sheet of hard board or ply wood first then the lino. but much better just to lay it on the concrete if you can.

hope this helps

That's great thanks. I was hoping I wouldn't have to glue it down. Eventually they want to replace the whole bathroom so I didn't want to end up making that a worse job!

Use the old carpet as a template and cut the lino quite generously around the carpet shape.

Stevienicks- that's brilliant advice. I would never have thought of that. Makes perfect sense though Smile

And make sure you use a sharp stanley knife to do it not a sharp kitchen knife like I first tried to use Blush
