Hello, can anyone tell me if we will be able to put mirrors and pictures up in a rented property? I was just wondering as we havent rented before but are considering it.

We sold our house 3 times now and it fell through and we lost the house we wanted so we thought we might just sell and rent for a while till we see something we like. We are a large family of 6 (soon to be 7) I just cant imagine living in a house with nothing on the walls?

ask the landlord.
most rental contracts have a standard clause not permitting it, but if you ask nicely and close any holes properly when moving out it shouldn't be a problem.

I've always been allowed to do it. Some landlords will allow a certain amount to be put up other will allow as long as you fill in any holes afterwards.

I have always asked permission re: hanging pictures and decorating.

It will usually say in your tenancy agreement. There is a standard clause in most agreements that says you can provided you use proper picture hooks etc rather than nails and make good the walls when you leave.

I'm a landlord and let my tenants do it, they did always ask first though. They have to make good before leaving, I leave paint that matches so they can do this. I also let them put up stair gates as they had a little one.

We've always done it anyway. You have to make a place home ! Just fill them in when you leave.

I've just spent a year living in a rental where we didn't put anything up. We weren't expecting to stay long. However, the landlord has sold it, we still haven't found a house to buy, and so are moving into a new rental. This one is a "proper" rent-out-for-the-longterm-income house as opposed to a rent-out-cos-we-can't-sell-it house.

So I have checked with the landlord, and yes we can put up coat hooks and towel rails and picture hooks and so forth. Phew.

IF you do rent, watch out for those "we'd rather sell it" rentals. You'll get it for 6 months and then they'll put it on the market for another try and you'll have to move on.

Could you buy something similar to these in the UK?

They are completely rental friendly Smile
