I want one of those cool light bulb lights with the coloured cord, that hang without a shade or anything attached to them?

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I've seen them in mags like living etc and actually saw them on Achica a few months ago but I just can't remember what they're called so i can actually buy one now.

It's like a large light bulb, with a coloured cord, that you'd just hang as a light feature - eg like a ceiling light/pendant but without any shade or other decoration. Thanks

Coloured cables here

John Lewis has some expensive ones too

Some more lightbulb

if it has no shade but does not glare, you may mean a large Globe Lamp with an opal shell. You can usually get 100mm ones (four inch) and I think I have seen 125mm or 150mm

Philips and GE make them, and there are cheaper brands (but avoid Memolux, I bought half a dozen and two were faulty)

I use the energy saving ones at 20W/22W/24W on the hall and landing, as they last a very long time and I think look good.

they look like this

Perhaps you mean something like this?

Heals also did a simpler version earlier this year with an exposed bulb.

I like the ones where there are LOTS of bulbs or fittings all resting against each other, I saw them on Achica too but I think they'll date really quickly. Shame, because they're fun.

PigletJohn · 20/08/2012 19:42

come on kitsmum, tell us what sort you mean!

a hanging version of this table lamp?

Flossiechops · 20/08/2012 21:35

I know what you mean, try John lewis or you can put it together yourself with various roses and coloured cords try historic lighting. You can then buy the fancy bulbs separately :)

I have a plumen lightbulb, red cord and a Madison clear glass light shade all from John Lewis in my study.

LittleBearPad · 20/08/2012 23:11

Or this?

sorry, sorry, sorry, when I first checked back I hadn't had any responses so thought the thread might just come to nothing!

Thank you so much for all the different options. Somone has found the exact thing I was originally after....., thanks Ivana. I'm pretty sure this was the exact thing that I'd seen in the mag NUD

However, I also like quite a few of the others listed too so will look into them too, to see which ones can hold a large globe bulb.

So thanks again everyone, I've now got quite a few options, instead of not a single one Smile

Wow, I've just had a good look at that historic lighting site that flossie linked to, there's some serious amazing stuff on there

Just got here too late! I was going to recommend NUD! I have the coloured cables in my kitchen with plumen bulbs in them. I got mine from SCP when they had an offer/sale on, They also sell the nice squiggly filament bulbs. Smile

Glad you found it useful :) I wanted 3 pendants hanging over my work tops and searched high and low for the right thing. Because the house is Edwardian I didn't want anything too bright so ended up with the black twisted cable and simple chrome rose and bulb holders. The effect is just what I was after, also because you buy the cable by the metre you can adjust the height to suit :)
