Fitted wardrobes - talk to me about interiors

We are going to have new built-in wardrobes put into two bedrooms shortly. I am swimming in brochures at the moment which show all these lovely figaries (pull out tie-racks, shoe storage, baskets, pull down hanging etc etc).

From your experience, what is worth getting, and what are just gimmicks ?

Depends what you own and will use. I have one rail across and a half height rail halfway across, for shirts. Also a shoe holder on the high rail that sticks on with velcro. I wanted future flexibility and max hanging, so mainly rails - I have chests already.

I think drawers are very handy, up to, say, worktop height (unless you have a great many full-length ball gowns)

I prefer solid pigeon-hole type shoe storage, or shoe shelves close to the floor. Shoes otherwise may end up in a heap.

You can also hide your wallsafe/keysafe on the back wall

At least one high shelf where you can put the stuff you never seldom need, including shoes in shoe-boxes. You can put stuff in plastic crates on the top shelf if it is wide enough.

I like to have drawers built in on either edge with one hanging rail at the top, so there is full length space in the middle for longer clothes. I had double hanging before and it crushed skirts, long tops, jackets, jumpers, dresses and trousers, I would never have double hanging again.
