We have a baxi boiler, what's the most efficient way to run it?

We have two dials, one for the gas fire and one for the boiler.

The boiler is switched to 2. Am I meant to be doing something to it? what are the levels for?

The manual is long gone, the model number's rubbed off and the last occupants were not exactly concerned with keeping bills down.

So should I turn it up to the highest setting then? I didnt know they were known to be gas munchers.

We have room thermostats and I've turned the water down to 55c.

Sad

is this a rented home?

is it a boiler on the wall, or a gas fire with back-boiler?

Baxi is just a manufacturer.

It's a rented home. For years I thought baxi was spelt backsy and was a way of describing gas boilers housed behind the gas fire.

It's a boiler behind a gas fire.

I long for my own home with a proper boiler, preferably a new one thats all modern and energy effiecient.

Apologies for any sp I am very tired.

As its a rental I doubt you can do much. Make sure the cylinder is well insulated, if it does not have factory applied blue or green foam (yellow is not as good) fit two red insulating jackets, they will pay for themselves in about a month especially if you can get a subsidised one from wilkinsons at £3 still, and put tubular foam lagging on all hot pipes. If in their warehouse they will order it for you, you can do it online and collect from your local shop, its a very good service.

Try setting the timer to heat the cylinder for an hour morning and evening before the time you need hot water, and adjust it depending on your usage pattern. A modern boiler will heat a modern cylinder in about 20 minutes and it will stay hot for 24 hours until used, but a back boiler is not modern.
Find the stat strapped to the side of your cylinder, 60C is OK, but 50C allows bacteria to live.

Feel all your radiators to make sure they do not get warm when you only have HW on
