architect+builders VS 1 outfit that does it all?

Does anyone happen to know which is a better way to organise a loft conversion: architect/ structural engineer plus builders; or one loft conversion company that would do the whole thing?

The complication is that although this is the only big bit of structural work we're having done on the house we're just bought, we are also having the whole thing renovated (windows, doors, plastering, electrics, new bathroom). So we're wonderin if we need an architect to help us with specifications for builder quotes etc. And it might be tricky to have a team of builders workin alongside the loft people (re electrics, plumbing etc.) I'm heavily pregnant w third DC and my husband works long hours, so we want to make things as easy as we can ( we won't be living in the house while it done up).

Am now thinking that a one-stop building company that provides the plans, structural engineering and all would probably be best - but is it hard to get comparable quotes if you don't have your designs and specs worked out in advance?

I'd so love to hear from anyone who has done anything like this!

If there is a 'one-stop' option then go for it. We're trying to get some work done, not a loft extension though, and am already frustrated by what order to get things done, who needs to do what and when. It is too much faff if you don't know what you're doing, although I suppose you'll learn a lot from it if you ever do anything similar again.
