How cheaply could I put a shower in my bathroom?

Following on from the lady who asked about cost of bathroom/kitchen...

There is enough room in my bathroom for a shower and I reckon it would be easy to access waste and water, I have spare tiles from when the bathroom was installed. Looking at b and q I reckon I could get the bits ie shower, enclosure, tray for about £1000, but I'd love to get them cheaper as I really want a shower and really don't have £1000...

All you ladies who know how to do things cheaply... Any tips, any compnaies better than b and q???

Thank you!

Don't cut too much off the cost of a shower - look for features around the door seals / base etc that makes it almost impossible for water to escape. The walls have to be lined with special board before the tiles go on. Any any any tiny leak will cause no end of problems.

We don't have an enclosure - the builder built a wall with a recess for bottles etc and then we just have the door. Do you currently have good over bath shower? If not, that might be a better solution. You can get new baths that are wider at one end for showering... I'd rather shower standing up in a bath than a tiny shower anyway - 900mm square minimum if you have the space :)

Plumbers are notoriously tricky to get hold off so you're best of trying to get a local recommendation if you can.

Our bath is a plastic free standing Victorian looking bath so a shower into that would be hell. There is actually loads of space, could put quite a big one in no problem.

Where would you suggest looking?

Have a look at Plumbworld for decent kit at good prices.

I think you would be hard pushed to get a decent enclosure, tray/waste and shower for less than £1k though. Perhaps worth spending a bit of money on something you will use so much?
