What to do about issue not picked up on survey?

We recently moved house. We had a full survey done. This was pretty positive with no deal-breaking issues identified. It is apparent now we've moved in that there is a fairly substantial mould/damp problem in the kitchen (it is in a flat-roofed extension to the property). I suspect it is most likely caused by a leak in the roof as there are watermarks at the top of the wall.

It is fairly obvious as the mould extends right along the coving above the kitchen cupboards, although I guess it may have been covered-up at time of survey somehow....

Would I have a case against the surveyor because he should have spotted it? How should I proceed? Do I just email him and say there is a problem or should I get it investigated first?

Many thanks in advance for any advice!

if you instructed/engaged the surveyor yourself then yes , but ! as this looks obviously "combative" if ANY reluctance is encountered, i should consider the expense of a solicitor may be worthwhile , close check of your contract 1st though , specifically small print .
