Ecowarmth electric heating system in new house...anyone know anything?

We are moving to a house which has Ecowarmth electric radiators. My DH said that was all a load of old rubbish and we should take it out and get gas to the house and a proper gas central heating system installed.

Since then we have had all the paperwork and seen that the seller spent £5,000 on getting this system installed and it's all under guarantee until 2015. We are now wondering whether it is worth keeping... If so, what about hot water?

Apologies if this is all beyond tedious, but really would appreciate it if anyone has ANYTHING at all to say about it.

They're not the ones made of pure Italian Aluminium that magically create more energy than you put in are they

Electric heaters are very simple. X amount of electricity in, Y amount of heat out, cost X. Price you pay for the heaters is immaterial, though I dare say somebody can make a handsome living by selling overpriced heaters to the gullible

If you have gas available, running cost is between half and one third what electricity cost (though Economy 7 sort of schemes are cheaper for the night-time use only, and dearer for the day-time use). Additionally the company fuse limits the total amount of electricity your house can draw from the network at any one time, a typical modern boiler usually has more power than the maximum electricity you can have. This may be important if you have a large or draughty house.

edit no, these ones are made with German magic.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Magic free heat that you don't pay for! My sides are splitting!

Not sure what is different about ecowarm radiators, but the old storage heaters are crappy crappy crap crap. Had them in an old house, just useless, need to know in advance always when it is going to be chilly, boiling on a morning, run out of steam by mid afternoon, whole tedious turning them off before bed malarkey.

I don't suppose there is any harm in giving them a go when you move in and monitoring effectiveness and cost, but I have to say normal gas radiators with a thermostat were such a relief.
