White gloss slab doors. Which worktop and tiles/splashbacks??

I'm going for white gloss slab doors with long chrome handles.

Please help me choose a worktop and tiles!

My next door neighbours have laminate butcher block-look laminate worktops with white metro tiles and it looks amazing! She was kind enough to let me in to have a nosey at her new kitchen, so obviously I can't copy her!

I will be going for a laminate as my budget doesn't permit anything more expensive, and I would like to go for something different to my neighbours, so I'm thinking a black worktop.

What is your experience of black laminate worktops...gloss, matt or otherwise? I'm going for the wow factor, and am prepared to pay more if it will give me the wow factor.

It doesn't have to be black, though! Has anybody used light worktops with white doors? I find it really hard to visualise things, so am really open to ideas, no matter how radical!

I am thinking of upstands at the moment, but that's only because I have no ideas about tiles! Have you used upstands and been happy with the look? What colour did you paint the walls?

Help!

Thanks in advance.

stay away from the black gloss laminate worktops!!!

they scratch like crazy, not big scratches, little tiny ones that you can see everytime the light catches them and they will drive you crazy

have you considered a dark walnut laminate?

acid colours work really well against the walnut and white (think lime green if you are feeling brave) and really would create the wow factor

steer away from light colour worktops as they always look dirty agaist the white gloss

Thank you, workshy!

The kitchen guy did kind of hint that the black gloss one I was after shows up scratches, but he infuriatingly wouldn't say for sure. His disclaimer is that clients have to live with their decision, so he doesn't like to recommend anything Sad. Do you cut things straight onto the worktop?

The dark walnut is what my neighbour has, I fear. It looks amazing, and I love it, but I don't want to copy her as I would be annoyed if somebody copied me like that. Maybe i should talk to her and see what she says. She might be more forgiving if I discuss it with her?!

Lime green..really? As I said, I'm open to anything. Will have a look. Thank you.
