Front Paths - DIY possible?

OK - bit of a boring topic but we live in a Edwardian semi and want to tidy up the front path area. Is it completely unreasonable to attempt to pullup crazy paving and lay a (simple-ish) geometric design? Or is this a job only for professionals? and, if so, any good websites/books to help with this?

Thanks

Watching with interest.....
We have a concrete path which needs some tlc.

As it is a good solid base we are considering resin bonded gravel: www.resinbondedsurfaces.co.uk/DIY%20Kit%20Resin%20Bonded%20Gravel.htm

if you have to put in the subbase that is hard graft plus a hired vibro plate and a small skip for the waste soil which is easy enough (compacted 150mm type 1 aggregate). Surfacing is a more skilled job generally but not beyond a competent diy-er. Dh did our patio entirely in stone for about a third of the quotes and did a great job too.... So it is possible but not necessarily something you should take on if you have never even wielded a screwdriver!

Thanks for the reply - working on DH... If it means he gets a few days off "ark duty' with the kids then I think he might be up for it...
