Hi can anyone help me approx work out how many rolls I will need to cover one wall size 4.2 m x 2.75 m

52cm x 10m ROLL
52cm wide REPEAT - HALF-DROP.

there's 5.2 sq meters in the roll right? but that depends on how it works out with the drop.

anyone an expert, I'm not!!

The calculator is quite good but it doesnt accound for larger pattern matches. Says I need 3 rolls but Ive been told that before and ended up with 2.5 rolls left over, slightly smaller wall in that case but not much.

Yr wall is 275cm high. You need to calculate the number of repeats per drop. 275 divided by 52 is 6 (has to be whole numbers in result). But for a half drop pattern you need to add an extra repeat every other drop.

Then work out how many drops you need to cover the width. 420cm divided by 52cm is, irritatingly, 9 drops (check yr measurements as if wall is 416cm you can do it in 8).

So, 9 drops. 5 of them will be 6 repeats. 1 repeat is 52cm so that's 30 x 52cm = 15.6m. 4 of them will be 6 repeats so that's 24 x 52cm = 12.5. In total you need 28.1m of paper. A roll is 10m so you need 3 rolls. Actually even if wall is 416cm wide you will still need 3 rolls.

Actually, now I've woken up properly I've had another think about that. Principle is correct but I messed up the rpts AND forgot to take no of drops per roll into account! Blush AND that you need the alternate drops to be an extra HALF repeat, not whole one Blush. Must learn not to post until after 1st cup of tea.

Start again. You need 5 x6-rpt cuts, and you can get 3 of those out of one roll. So, that's one complete roll and then around 6m of the second roll for the final two.

Then you need 4 x 6.5 rpt cuts. You'll get one of these out of the rest of the second roll. BUT you can't quite get your final 3 cuts out of one roll. so you'll need 4 rolls and have loads of wastage.

sorry, suspect I have made this confusing in an effort to help. Any chance you can choose another pattern?? Or find a cupboard which needs wallpapering inside......

Thanks fresh, that is actually helpful

to make it more complicated the wall has a door way 80 cm x 200 and also a cupboard 60 cm x 120.

so 3 rolls should be plenty.. I think. the reason I ask is that it's £50 a roll and hand printed so you need to buy all at once to make sure the serial number of the print matches up!

3 rolls should do it then. Is it F&B? I once had to order one extra roll from them as decorator stuffed up the quantities and was v worried as thought I'd have to order 3...but they did have a spare one!

Good luck anyway Smile
