Curtain heading help please

I am looking into new curtains for our bedroom and need them internlined to keep the heat in - its a cold room with single glazed sash windows.

Are there any good websites which show the various headings and the benefits of each?

I wanted a soft look, nothing too formal, with mediumn weight interlining. So far have come up with loose cartridge or deep pinch pleat but am not sure if these are the best options.

I have googled but not come up with much so far.

TIA

Pinch pleat is quite formal I think. Pencil pleat is softer and less formal.

Link below to a page which shows lots of different curtain headings with a description. Sorry you may have to cut and past as I am on iPad and tech challenged.

Hi pannacotta I always use Rufflette header tapes when making curtains, have a look at some images on their website here

I prefer pencil pleat too (their pencil pleat header tape is called Regis) If the curtains are long, ie floor length, I think the deep Regis/pencil pleat looks much nicer. I think pinch pleat are a bit poncy formal too Grin

How are the kitchen plans coming along? We've finally worked out how to make our space work, started some building work today but still need to get kitchen plans drawn up. And decide on the kitchen style!

Another option is to have the curtains made but not pleated, just get the curtain maker to mark on the lining where they would have pulled the fabric together to start making the pinch pleats. Put a curtain hook in each of these marks. Put two hooks into each curtain ring.

This gives you a loosish cartridge pleat, like a very wide pencil pleat. It stacks back beautifully - in precise columns but still soft.

Yet another option is Walcot House rivets here - they come in wide range of colours including some soft F&B style neutrals.

Thanks all, I had meant deep pencil rather than pinch pleat, just like the Regis amazonian. I think that looks lovely and classic! Respect that you make your own curtains....

Great to hear your building work is underway! We finally have a kitchen plan, I used an indepdent designer in the end as our space was very awkward and I wanted to be sure I had the best layout not just loads of units. Not too pricey either.
But no progress on builders, I need to draw up a spec and I just cant seem to get round to it!!

fresh I think the loose cartridge is what I am erring towards, like the catridge heading on here, is that what you meant?

I need them to stack back well as they are for a large bay window.

Dont quite understand the rivets, how do they work?

Yes, that's what I meant, it's just that you don't need to sew in the pleats if you do it using 2 hooks per curtain ring. Will try and post some photos.

The rivets use the same principle, just pinning the fabric together rather than having pleats sewn in, it's just that they're more decorative which is good if you have v plain curtains. They also do a combined rivet and hook which I haven't got round to trying yet but looks like a great idea.

You take one 'button' off the rivet end, push it through the fabric where normally you would make the 'pinch' in pinch or goblet pleats, and then snap the other 'button' on the end. Thus forming the pleat.

Think I have posted 2 photos on my profile....

Pannacotta · 24/07/2012 11:41

Thanks fresh that is really helpful, beautiful curtains, btw, did you make them or just specify them?

Thank you! Noooo, I work on the principle that you have to know what you're not good at...my lovely curtain maker, who made all my clients' curtains for me, did those. My choice of fabric though, it was one of my favourites but I could never quite persuade a client to choose it Grin

John Lewis and Laura Ashley both give lots of info about different styles and how to measure up etc.

Nice curtains fresh!
