Blotting out dark paint

I am trying to convert a room in our house into DD's bedroom, so she can move from the smaller 'nursery' room she is in at the moment. The room I want to move her to is currently painted dark green.

So.... how do I block out the dark green? Would I do an all over of white, and if so which white would you recommend?

Having done the all over white and (hopefully) eradicated the green forever, my plan is to then put the actual colour I want on top. Does this sound a reasonable way of going about things?!

Thanks in advance for any tips.

I'm no expert but would suggest lots of thin coats of trade white paint and then a couple of coats of your chosen colour.

Yes, painting white is the perfect solution. On a pure white base, your chosen shade will come up exactly as it was intended to :)

Pay more for thicker white paint. The one-coat varieties are very good, particularly the Dulux one though I've had equal success with Wickes own brand; it's just not as nice to use. If your green is very dark you will need more than one coat, despite the product name!

There are 'cover up' paints on the market but the one I've tried was actually less effective than Once.

This weekend we have used three thin-ish coats of cheap white (£6.98 from B&Q) to paint out a chocolate wall. Total success.

Good luck!

Brilliant, thank you ladies!
