IKEA kitchen grey gloss base units- what goes with them?

Having great fun planning a new kitchen and have decided upon IKEA's grey gloss slab base units, but the other choices are driving me nuts. The room is north facing so needs warming and brightening. White gloss/ matt wall units? Would cream gloss wall units be more warming? How about paint, worktop and floors? Help.

Hi lou, I've just had the Ikea grey gloss fitted in my kitchen. Base units and wall units. I splashed out and had White Caesarstone worktops, and am waiting for the olive green glass splash backs to be fitted.
I'm painting the Walls and ceiling with Crown kitchen and bathroom White paint, and have chosen a vinyl flooring that is stripey with different greys.
Rather dull but I go off things really quickly!
There are some glass wall cupboards that compliment the gloss base units. Had I been braver I'd have gone for the green, I love green! And I love the pink but DH wouldn't even entertain the idea. The White glass is a safe option and looks lovely.
I think really bright coloured accessories lift any room, and are easy to change. Bread bin, curtains/blind, whatever you put in the windowsill etc.
It is fun isn't it - at first!
Let me know what you decide

Your kitchen sounds lovely- not dull at all.I love green too but not keen on the shade of green units that Ikea do. I really want to have the Varde freestanding unit on the other side of the kitchen units with our big stainless steel fridge, so would like to tie in the birch wood with the worktop. So maybe grey gloss base units with cream gloss units above them , birch worktop, cream flooring of some sort, off white paint? I'll have a look at the glass cupboards and different bright splashbacks. I'm going round in circles :-)

It's difficult to say without seeing the kitchen but if grey is the chosen colour, I would opt for grey units both wall and base. Probably put a sharp white emulsion on the walls to contrast against the kitchen units. To warm it up I would use a wood work surface and probably a pink splash back/accessories. I'd also go for a charcoal tile flooring (something that has a touch of reddish/brown in the grey as opposed to fully grey).

There you go, I confused you even further.

The combination of colours you mention are classic so you can't go wrong! Grey, cream and birch. Lovely.
Dulux Ivory Lace is a good off White paint. We have it throughout our house.
I do agree with jalopy though re: grey units top and bottom. Unless you're spending 20K plus, it looks wrong somehow to have different colours. I wanted White wall units at first. it even looked wrong in the Ikea showroom.

So, if you have grey door/drawer fronts, the free stander in birch, and the worktops in birch, the Walls painted cream and the floor cream - you could have a stainless steel splash back behind the hob.

Plenty of cream to lighten up the room.

Then you just need to think of an accent colour for your accessories, which can be changed at will!

Magenta would be fab. Or green of course!

Are you opting for a tiled floor or vinyl or laminate?

Thanks both. I'll go back to the Ikea design planner and try it with all grey units. Would love tiles in a Fired Earth style, but the room is so cold in winter that maybe vinyl would be kinder on the feet :-)

Vinyl is also kinder on the purse!
When you say the planner I assume you mean the instore computer thingy.
If you are definitely using Ikea I highly recommend using the design service. A qualified architect comes to your house and makes suggestions you hadn't thought of. It does cost £100 but you get £50 of that back when you purchase and the other £50 if you use Ikea to do the fitting.
We had our own fitter but the £50 was more than worth it, and is neither here nor there when you're spending a few grand.
