Does anyone have positive stories of not losing the house they wanted when their buyer dropped out?

Well, after a week of umming and ahhing (spConfused) our buyer has backed out, despite our providing a structural report showing that the issues raised in the survey are, in fact, non-issues Angry. We have already dropped the price by £10k and can't go any lower, though we have offered to pay for a damp report and, if there is a problem there we will have to ask parents for help.

We got the news just an hour after having an offer accepted on our dream house Sad. Will have to ring that agent today. That house has been on the market for months (since winter) and they are not in a massive hurry to move - think they want to be out by the end of the year.

Our house was 'sold' to the first viewer so was hardly on the market any time and we already have 4 ftbers lined up to view who the agent tells us were all devastated to misss out before. Have looked on Rightmove and there really is very little competition. We have lowered the asking price because we are desperate to keep the house we want.

Do you think there is any chance our vendors will wait a little while for us?

Ours did Smile

And our situation sounds similar to yours.

Our buyers were a week from exchanging when it fell through. Luckily the people we were buying from were willing to wait for us, they had no chain above them. But we kept them in the loop at all times so that they knew we weren't messing them about, we desperately wanted their house. We found a new buyer who were a pain in the arse but it worked out eventually.
Fingers crossed for you.

This time last year we were in a similar situation. Our buyer pulled out and the situation was made worse as there was a competitor for the house we were buying who was in a better position to move quickly although their offer was significantly lowered than ours. The vendor agreed to wait and we found a new buyer within a few weeks at a slightly lower price.

It was a nightmare then for a couple of months until exchange. Our vendor was chain free and should have been in no rush, selling an inherited house but was acting like a complete arse, threatening to pull out every other day. Or new buyers were also a complete pain, really slow and nervous even though we had expressly accepted their lower offer on condition of a quick exchange. Eventually it all did come together though.
