Are old plain cast iron baths worth anything?

Dh has ripped the bathroom to bits today, and there is a large old knackered cast iron bath.

We have yet to get it down the stairs because it is rather heavy.
Dh has tried to smash it up, to get it out easier... but hasn't managed to yet :o

We were planning on taking it to a scrap yard, along with the old lead pipes.
It's a plain bath, not a roll top, but i've just looked online and they don't seem to be worth very much.

Is it worth the hassle of trying to get it in dh's truck?
Or do we leave it out for the local traveller scrap collectors?
(and just take the lead to the scrap yard)

We smashed ours into 4 and took it to the scrap yard - I think we got about £20 for it!

I got £35 for mine from one of those house clearance companies in the back of the paper.

They did say at the time that they are not worth what they used to be because once people cottoned on to not just skipping them, scrap yards and reclaimers have loads of them.

Its worth phoning one out - they will move it downstairs and out of the house for you and it won't cost you anything. Whatever money you get will be a bonus!

It depends on the bath. My parents replaced their old 1920s bath with a new one and let the bathroom fitter take the old one away for about twenty quid. They later saw it restored and occupying pride of place in the bath showroom's window - turned out it was a rare art deco one and worth loads. Oops.

Try Lassco or Walcot type places for a quote before you scrap it. They can be re-enamelled and look amazing when restored. I can't believe you're throwing it out, TBH.

Thanks, we would have kept it if it was nice, but it was an ugly thing with lots of missing enamel.

Dh kept hitting it, and only managed to chip it...
So I went in with ear defenders on, large sunglasses for protection, and my trusty lump hammer... and demolished it :o

It's now in 2 halves on the drive.
