Anyone know Stamford Brook, Turnham Green, Chiswick?

DH and I have been looking to buy for ages, and hoped to buy the house we're renting. Unfortunately the price our landlord is suggesting is going to be beyond us (though we don't think he's being realistic; he's looking at asking prices and we're looking at the Land Registry and there's about 30% difference between the two Angry).

Anyway, DH has spotted a house that looks fabulous but it's outside our search area (we were looking in Brook Green). I don't know the area at all, apart from the Old Cinema and High Road House.

Which are the nice streets in this neck of the woods? How easy is the commute from the District and Piccadilly lines into the City? We're used to the Hammersmith & City so we don't have high expectations, but I'm concerned about the strange timetables.

Any information much appreciated, thank you!

Turnham Green is lovely - especially the Bedford Park area which is the bit north of Turnham Green station (heading away from high street). It is quiet and leafy and only 5-10 minutes walk to the high street.

I used to commute from there to st Pauls everyday. I didn't rely on the Piccadilly line but got District to Hammersmith then picadilly from there. It'd take about 45 minutes to get to the city.

Chiswick itself is really nice. I lived there before children and its the best of both worlds I think (access to London but quite suburban). Good luck and if you want to link to any properties feel free and if i can picture where they are I'll give you some thoughts.

Thanks Lula.

This particular house is on Hatfield Road. I'd rather not post the link, if that's okay, as I don't want to out myself. I'm also interested in houses on Rusthall Avenue, Fairlawn Avenue and Upham Park Avenue as they've been for sale for ages and might take a very cheeky offer.

We don't have kids and one of the things that concerns me is that this part of London will feel very suburban and yummy London mummy, and we'll feel a bit overwhelmed by other people's big prams and 4x4s Blush

it's much less yummy than Brook Green, and Bedford Park / Ravenscourt Park are far nicer outdoor spaces than the dog run that is Brook Green. Outside of Faroe / Bolingbroke / Masbro / Milson / Irving, BG is just Shepherd's Bush with delusions. I fear you are going to have to come to terms with the "A" word though... Hatfield is Acton...

We lived 2 mins from stamford brook last year
Great for district, can't get Piccadilly but can change quick at hammer smith .
Chiswick High street has some nice restaurants and bars off it which is great for eating out at the weekend.

Try looking just a few rds different in brook green as that makes a huge difference ( we live near barons court st now as commute just that bit quicker and easy to walk to h and city line if you need.

Thanks Bobbi, I can cope with Acton, a mate of mine lived in Bollo Lane years ago and loved it Smile. I have a horrid feeling you know where I currently live Wink. There's very little on the market here and it's all so small and expensive.

Bedford Park is a fantasy, literally every house is £3m or more.

Interesting what you say about YM Brook Green. I'd have said the opposite. We don't really suffer from the gratuitous displays of affluence here, possibly it's too easy to get mugged Sad.

I am a former Faroe Road dweller, back from pre-fire at the Havelock, when the staff actually knew people's names (& all this was fields etc). Discovered I could only afford one of the hideous new build skinny town houses on Blythe when it came to buying, sadly!

I always think of the super yummy frenchies dropping off on BG, and taking tea at Betty Blythes (rather than the dealers at the Richmond). Rose tinted spex firmly in place.

I haven't been in Betty's since it opened. You need a mortgage for a coffee.

BG is waaay too posh for us, full of upper class families who are too english to live in nearby kensington and holland park so had to downgrade a little bit!!
