Wooden floor for bathroom- real, karndean or ceramic?

We have a downstairs shower room which is about to be renovated. At our old house we had a gorgeous oak floor in the bathroom which looked fab but was dangerously slippy and didn't cope well with the water.

So, I would ideally like a dark wood look, but don't think I would use real wood again. Someone on a thread a while back linked to some tiles which were wood effect but now I can't find the thread. In searching for that I came across Karndean as an option.

We have young dcs, the downstairs shower room is their main loo/hand washing area- it takes a bit of a battering. But, we don't intend to be in the house more than 2 years.

Any suggestions/ recommendations?

Karndean. Will cope best with being wet, least slippy of the 3 and less likely to crack heads that fall on it!

I'm putting it in our ensuite.

Have you used it before?

No but I've seen it down in a lot of houses and it looks really really good.

Very much like wood. The first time I saw it I actually got down to touch it to check if it was wood or not!

It is almost padded too, so its soft and warm underfoot. And much safer for small children.

Amtico. Looks great if it's fitted well. Very hardwearing too xx

We have Karndean in various rooms and it looks lovely and is very easy to maintain. Works well with underfloor heating too.

Spacia is Amtico's cheaper sister product

We have Karndean in our bathrooms and it is great. Easy to clean, not slippy when wet.

In Winter months it was warm underfoot after having a shower.

It's pretty hardwearing if laid down correctly.

Try Bamboo....wayyyy cheaper, real wood, variety of finishes including v dark and as long as you get the right type recommended for bathrooms

here is the link for the wood-effect ceramic tiles. Have used these, they look great.

Thanks for responses.

I think we have ruled out ceramic tiles this time, even though they look great they are probably too expensive and hard on this occasion.

Am now looking at the bamboo, I love the darker colours and the fact that it is real wood. But, still interested in the Karndean too due to the practical nature of it- admittedly I do have reservations about it looking cheap & plasticky.

If you're not going to be in the house for long, have you looked at vinyl? I know it sounds awful but I saw some in a flooring shop yesterday and I was really surprised at the finish. It looked pretty good and it was very cheap. Easy to fit, too.

Do look at Spacia by Amtico

There is a Marmoluem product called Artoleum which look a bit like wood. Its not fake wood as such, but is lino with a linear effect in wood colours.
Lino is great in bathrooms as its warm, soft and easy to clean plus apparently its anti bacterial.

You can order samples from the website as the pics arent great.

Is stone an option? If not I think I'd go for bamboo.
