washhouse style utility room?

We have just stripped out our old bathroom which will now be a utility room. It is currently just bare brick except one wall which is rough cast as is gable end of original house. Whilst the rough cast wall will need finishing with either plaster board or wood cladding inwondered about just repointing the brick work and white washing it. Have been looking at old wash house images and thought id go for that look.
Our house is an old cottage, all decor quite traditional cottage.
Does this sound like it could work or does it sound awful?

Thinking white brick walls, deep square sink for handwashing and my old maid hanging from the ceiling.
Any thoughts on the idea abd ways to make it work/look nice?

You've just described my scullery! Old farmhouse and our scullery has exposed brick and two huge sinks, sheila maid hanging from ceiling. I have wicker baskets, enamel ware and old tiles down. Rosettes hanging from the beams and bunting at the window! Also have a walk in pantry with latch door and an old pine wardrobe we use to hang coats in. It's one of my favourite rooms!

Like the sound of the walls and deep sink.
I also think some simple tongue and groove panelling woudl look good and might feel a little "cleaner" than brickwork, if that makes sense?

This kind of thing

Lovely. Sounds like a Cowshed spa. I'd spend much more time in my utility room if it resembled The Cowshed Smile

Sounds lovely

"my old maid hanging from the ceiling."

poor thing.

I have a feeling it will be very cold, and possibly damp. If you are going to drape wet washing around, it will be damp unless it is well-ventilated. You can't trust people to open windows or vents as they will say it makes a cold draught.

If you clad the walls with T&G, plasterboard or something, have insulation behind it.

Pigletjohn hopefully not damp as have just ripped down old stinky rotten roof and put a brand new roof on, insulated with 70mm Kingspan.

We will have window open or dehumidifier on.

I always have my windows open all day. Only shut i night to keep pesky midges out!!

It sounds lovely, and I'm very Envy about SueHeck's. That is my fantasy utility room. I long to have it.
