Any dishwasher experts around?

I have a beko dishwasher, the lights are on and it's making noise but it's not actually washing dishes. The noises start as soon as the door is closed when the main power button is on, usually you have to press the start button before anything happens.

It was the cheapest one in the shop when I bought it, is there likely to be something simple wrong I can fix myself, if it's more complicated is it worth getting repaired or am I better off cutting our losses and getting a new one possibly even a slightly better brand?

Just fixed my dishwasher using the 45 degrees tilt. Just to be clear, a ton of water pours out and soaks your floor when you do it, but it's worth it to not have to pay for an engineer. Might yet be a leak, in which case the tray will just fill up again and I'll be in the same position again, but I have a dishwasher for now. Glad that I found this thread.

thanks very much the 45 degree thing worked.

The dishwasher is working fine. Only problem is that the dw tablet is not being ejected properly and ends up in a soggy heap on the left side of the dw base. This has only recently started. Any tips/solutions?

that can be wear. There is an electric control that releases the latch on the dispenser lid. If it is not working properly the lid may not spring open.

Verify that there is nothing obstructing the lid, such as a big pan, and see if it operates correctly when you use the manual opening button or lever. it's possible to take apart and fix it, but with the price of repairmen, the usual suggestion is to just drop the tablet in the cutlery holder, and it will dissolve when the water warms up.

If you are doing a cold-rinse-and-hold, don't put the tablet in until you are ready to start the wash. If damp, it will go soggy and crumble too soon.

p.s.

Are you sure the water is heating up properly? The tablets don't dissolve well in cold water. If you open the door (just a crack, then slowly after it has stopped squirting) half-way through a wash, steam should billow out and the water should be very hot.

If the machine is set to cold rinse, it would also leave a soggy tablet and the stuff would not be very clean.

Thank you PJohn - some very helpful suggestions there.
I've checked the mechanism which appears to be working perfectly. I will check that ps message which may be part of the problem.
However, your suggestion to pop it in the cutlery basket will work perfectly. Many thanks !

Thanks for the 45 degree tilt advice. Has saved the dishwasher, temporarily at least. There appears to be a leak within the dishwasher in a bit I can’t access. Quite a lot of water came out when I tipped it and now it’s working fine again. Luckily it is still in warranty so hopefully I can get an engineer to have a look at what is causing this. But really chuffed we’ve got a working dishwasher in the interim. Smile

I've just fixed mine with this tip too, I nearly cried when it wouldn't work

Mine is integrated so can’t do the wonderful tippy thing you’ve all managed! For the first time I’m annoyed at my lovely kitchen. This is the 2nd dishwasher I’ve had since 2013 😩

Papatron · 25/05/2020 16:40

@flouncymcflounceperson Mine is integrated but I was still able to do the tippy thing. You just have to undo the screws at the side which hold it in to the kitchen units then pull it out of the space before tipping it. There is probably a kickboard underneath your cupboard doors/dishwasher which you have to remove first.

This fix repaired my dishwasher temporarily but the overflow filling with water was a sign of a bigger problem, in my case a crack which had appeared in the spray arm and was causing water to spray outwards rather than upwards so that part had to be replaced.
