creating a home office space - how?

We have recently split a large bedroom into two rooms - one of the new rooms is for a home office.

It is quite a small space so we need to be efficient with planning the shelving and desk space.

Do we need to get a carpenter to build us a bespoke desk/shelving/computer space or is there an easy way to do it ourselves? e.g. like the wardrobe systems you can buy in IKEA and just pick out what you want and then put it together yourself.

Any tips?

Ikea do office/storage that you 'build' your own space with. It would be worth sitting down and thinking about what you need.
Computer/s
Writing space
Storage - how much and what kind
Book shelves

Anything you want. Decide what is needed and what is wanted, so you know in advance where you can be flexible and don't get carried away.

Then take room dimensions and powerpoints and go down and have a look. I imagine there are other companies that do it too, but I know Ikea does because I was looking at it not long ago.

I would also be worth getting a carpenter out to price the job too. My DM had one make fitted bedroom furniture and it wasn't expensive. He may be able to see what can be done with the space better too.

Thanks, I will have another look at ikea - I couldn't seem to find very much on the website for office storage but I will check again.

I agree that a carpenter may be able to give some creative ideas for the space too.

Have you thought about using kitchen units? There are many more configurations, sizes etc available to you that way, and the cabinets tend to be cheaper too.
