Moving with packers

So we are finally moving on Friday. We've paid for a packing service and they are coming on Thursday. Dh says we literally need to do nothing other than pack overnight bag. I thought we'd need to clear surfaces, floors all the crap lying around . Anyone had any experience and can give advice?
I have 2.5 yr old and 12 week old so less i have to do the better.

I insisted on packing my top drawer Grin but they pretty much did everything except what we needed for overnight. And they did it better and more quickly than I ever could have.

Just pack an bag for a couple of days, and plates/cups/cutlery and put it in the car so that doesn't get packed. And take the bin bag out so that isn't packed.

But thats it ! You can leave them to it and go to a neighbours (or book you and the children into a hotel for the night and leave dh to it)

They will literally pack everything that you haven't either specified for them to leave alone or packed yourself! It's ace (moved recently while pregnant and with a toddler to look after). You do need to try to think about stuff you don't want them to pack / don't want them to pack immediately - for instance our movers recommended that we should separate out important items like passports etc, and that you should keep a box of stuff you will want last thing in the old house and first thing in the new - kettle, toaster, that sort of thing. We forgot to separate out knives and breadbin and a plate or two and we found that we had to do without cos it was all packed before we even realised! You will find that stuff gets packed before you realise you need it but try to think of those things too.

It's great because they don't have time-wasting thoughts like "let's try to keep the cutlery all in the same place" or whatever - they simply grab a handful of stuff, wrap it in clean paper, place in box, grab next handful. Makes it an amusingly random experience when you come to unpack! It will be clearly labelled but still not "together" so do allow for that.

NB there will be a small number of things that they won't pack, specifically flammable items like spare petrol for the mower, the mower itself if it is not empty, etc.

That really is it. Ours actually wrapped and packed a cup I'd broken that morning once.

Make sure you have a box with kettle/tea/coffee/biscuits clearly marked and first out though. They'll like that.

Good luck. Smile
