I'm of the slung in storage option. Iirc ours are precariously balanced on top of a pile of carboot stuff Confused.

My organised DM on the other hand has hooks similar to these. She hangs the bikes on the wall of the garage (by the frame) using them.

I have also seen them stored on some kind of pulley system but I have no idea where you would get that or what it really is.

We have a rack that is screwed into the floor- the front wheel slots in. A bike like how boris bikes are stored! It's ace. Fits 5 bikes. We still have another 3 bikes, one lives on the bike work stand, one in the turbo trainer and one hung on the wall.

ChippyMinton · 25/06/2012 21:32

I keep a clear space for the bikes just inside the garage door, as they are used quite a bit. Everything else is shoved in willynilly behind them

Esclaffer · 25/06/2012 21:44

We chain the bikes to rings on our garden wall as we have no garage. Our cellar has plenty of space of bikes but it would require carrying them up two flights of stairs each time we want to use them.

chimchar · 25/06/2012 22:35

Cool. Thanks everyone. Digbert... You sound like a serious cyclist!

They take up so much space. Maybe if I cleared out most of the shit in the garage, the bikes would be easier to put in.

Anyone want to buy a dining table or any of the other stuff on the pile for eBay that will never get listed? Wink

I've been investigating this but not found anything very thrilling so far. The ceiling mounted pulley things need more head height than we have in our gaarage.

I need mine and the kids bikes to be very easily accessible but DH has 2 bikes which he doesn't use much which I'd like to take up less space. I think maybe hooks like oreo linked too plus some sort of wall mounted ring that they could be locked to. Very annoyingly the rarely used bikes were also expensive and our garage opens onto a very busy road so everyone can have a good look at what we've got in there!

Cosmosis · 25/06/2012 22:44

Hooks on the ceiling of the garage and hung alternating between front and back wheels. We have got 8 adult bikes in a normal single garage this way.

dilbertina · 26/06/2012 08:35

I made a bike rack using the now redundant side bits of a cotbed. leant them against wall at an angle and propped them in place with a few breeze blocks. slot the back wheels through the bars and they stay up. 2 cotbed sides can hold 8 or so bikes.

Was quite chuffed with self!

CuddyMum · 26/06/2012 09:16

Slung in the garage with flat tyres!

typicalvirgo · 26/06/2012 09:27

We've got bikes everywhere... 1 extra long 'tag-a-long' leaning against the side of the wall, 'best' one in the vestibule, 2 in the garage and 4 in the cellar Grin

Dilbertina that sounds quite impressive !

TalkinPeace2 · 26/06/2012 12:48

we have one of these
it holds 4 adult mountain bikes and they are locked to a shackle through the back (flap provided)

chimchar · 26/06/2012 19:15

more thanks everyone.

Dilbertina..you are a bloody GENIUS!!! you may actually have come up with the solution to my problem. I happen to have two sides of a cotbed just WAITING to get chucked out!!! i shall clear a space and try it out!

Thanks muchly! Grin

bebemoojem · 27/06/2012 17:52

in hooks hanging from ceiling in the garage with a large motorcycle chain locking them to the floor.... we've had them stolen before...

dilbertina · 27/06/2012 20:44

Why thankyou Chimchar! To be honest I have always been a little peeved that the world at large, and in particular my family, have failed to recognise my geniusness. Perhaps one day I will find an outlet for it that goes beyond finding clever future use of redundant nursery equipment!Grin

Thank you Digbert
