What do you think of this property?

Here

We'd ideally like a garage and utility room too, but could probably extend to sort that out.

Nice. Have other houses in the street done similar extensions to create a garage/utility room? That may be worth checking out.

BonnieBumble · 25/06/2012 11:05

I really like it, it's huge! Don't like the beams, are they original? They don't look they are. It's a good solid family home with lots of potential.

Mintyy · 25/06/2012 11:09

Gorgeous!!! (terrible photos though, they all seem to be out of focus).

here is a link to the kind of property you can buy in my neck of the woods for that sort of price, so you can see why I feel actual, palpable envy Grin.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 25/06/2012 11:11

Yes soupdragon there's another one just come onto the market that has a garage and utility room. They're not accepting viewings from people who aren't ready to proceed though, and we're not.

The beams aren't original BonnieBumble, the master bedroom and en-suite are the extended part of upstairs. The problem with that room is that it leaves very little space for furniture because of the slopes ceilings.

We're having ours valued tomorrow. If the sums add up nicely, then hopefully the agents will be able to persuade the owners of the other property to let us view theirs. It does sound like it ticks a couple more boxes than this one does.

It's nice, but the bedrooms (other than the master bedroom) seem a little on the small side.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 25/06/2012 11:17

This is the other one

OP posts:
jalopy · 25/06/2012 15:57

I think I prefer the 2nd property.

Rhubarbgarden · 25/06/2012 16:47

Lovely. Nice spacious living areas. And I prefer the garden of the first one.

GnocchiNineDoors · 25/06/2012 16:51

I like the first one, but LOVE the second one. Could you achieve what House Two has with £15k which is the difference between the two? Personally, i'd rather spend the extra on one allready done.

Its a real shame they aren't taking viewings from people in the process ratehr than ready to proceed, maybe this will keep it on the market long enough for you to get into that position?

bistokids · 25/06/2012 17:11

I prefer the first house and the second garden - the first house seems to have more character (though I agree about those beams) but the garden seems to be on quite an incline and it would bother me. Our last garden was on a similar incline and suffered flooding.

Which way does the garden face?

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 25/06/2012 18:53

Unfortunately both gardens face north / north-west, but so does ours ATM so that's no big deal really.

The best houses round here with the south facing gardens have a sea view so are even more £'s!

I'm hoping that our valuation tomorrow puts the second house within reach, and then they may be able to persuade the owners to let us view it. I've a feeling that the second one could be the one for us, especially because on reflection I'm not sure that a garage would fit well on property 1 without obstructing a window.

Let's see what tomorrow brings.

You get a lot for your money in your neck of the woods. I like them both.

QuintessentialShadows · 25/06/2012 19:02

I absolutely LOVE the first property. The kitchen is absolutely gorgeous, I love that it is open plan, and the conservatory is stunning with great views. Also love the balcony on the first.

The second house is not as good, why on earth do they have a massive grandiose staircase taking up 1/3 of the garden??? Strange.

I would rather have the first, and build my own garage, with walk through into house through utility area.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 25/06/2012 20:13

The kitchen is fantastic, my favourite part of the house.

The last photo looks great there, but today on a not so sunny day the room at the end that they took the photo from was really dark. Dark enough to need lights on all day. That's because the dining area and then the conservatory have been built off there. They do have lots of dark furniture in there and I'm wondering what we could do with mirrors, light decor and more suitable furniture........

TheFarSide · 25/06/2012 20:20

I love the first one - as someone else said, it has more character. The second one is very nice but looks just like everywhere else inside.

I am jealous.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 25/06/2012 21:04

Don't be! We've not had ours valued yet, they both might be just that bit too far out of reach. We'll know tomorrow!

OP posts:
IwishIwasmoreorganised · 26/06/2012 09:44

Well.......

They've suggested that ours should be marketed for £275,000, at that price it might take a month - six weeks to sell. If we put it on at £250,000 they could have it sold within a week Shock

She said that other people have put their houses on the market because of the 2 that I've linked to above, so basically it would be a race to sell in order to be successful.

She's going to arrange a viewing for the second property on Saturday, and a second viewing of the first so that DH can come.

If we sold at £250,000 we could be moving during the summer holidays. Eeek! This time last week we'd not even considered moving!!!

OP posts:
Moomoomie · 26/06/2012 11:03

If you have only just thought about moving, don't rush in too quickly and let your current house go for less than it is worth.
How often do houses come up in the area you are looking? If you miss out on either of the two above, will you be devastated?
Try not to let your emotions race ahead of you.

We can't afford to be too hasty! We're managing the mortgage comfortably enough just now, but obviously the costs associated with moving all add up so we'll most definitely have to think hard and then think even harder to make sure it's right.

Luckily DH is far less impulsive than me, so Saturday will be interesting to see what he thinks!

OP posts:
Miller1977 · 27/06/2012 13:47

I like the second one although they are both lovely. I could live in either. I'm just doing my house up at the moment. Kitchen is done, double glazing done and lounge done. Just upstairs to do! Cant wait till its done. The 2nd house picture looks similar to what mine will be like when its done!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 30/06/2012 11:47

Hmmm. Viewed them both this morning, neither is exactly right but frustratingly they have all the right things between them!

The next step is to see if we could realistically make the changes that we would want to make, while not breaking the bank!

To be honest I'm not sure we could, but we'll get our thinking caps on!
