Gold paint.

I hope that this is the right place to ask this. I have a strip of wall round a large room, guess it's just over a metre in height. I would like to paint it gold, metallic gold not yellow. Is there such a paint? Guess it would need about 2.5L of paint. Help please!

There is such a thing! I did the wooden bits of my front room silver many years back (with blue walls).

Not everyone's taste but I loved it Grin

It was over a decade ago, I can't remember where I got the paint but I suspect it was simply a local paint store.

Yes there is. I did a silvered wall in a bedroom once. It went over the top of a strong base colour.

That's good news..thanks for that threeleftfeet and Stealthsquiggle. Any ideas where to get it? Dulux and the like are just yellow..any links [cheeky] Grin

Do you have an independent or smallish paint shop or building suppliers near you? I expect they could order it for you.

The last one shut down last month threeleftfeet only seem to have B&Q or Homebase. Is there somewhere online this would be available..quick search showed gold paint but not suitable for walls.

silver and gold metallic paints are always (AFAIK) oil paints, not water, I expect that is why they say not suitable for walls. You might be able to get a foil wallpaper with a metallic finish.

Crown Fashion for Walls Millionaire shade?

Bienchen · 24/06/2012 14:35

Also, Craig & Rose do a range of metallic colours. Still racking my brain about another make but not sure whether it still exists.

stealthsquiggle · 24/06/2012 19:29

I just had a quick hunt and came up with Crown Fashion for walls too

minipie · 24/06/2012 22:26

I second the Craig & Rose metallics range suggestion. I used the Grate Black, it is definitely metallic looking. It is thicker than normal paint though so will need fairly careful handling.

SkipTheLightFanjango · 24/06/2012 22:27

Thanks for the suggestions..will look those up! Smile

please post back if you find a good water-based one suitable for walls - I'd be interested.

Okay...months later and under a different name we have finally started painting gold paint. It's a Crown paint called "Millionaire" in the metallic glamorous shine range. Very good gold colour but due to the shine will show up any imperfections in the wall surface.

PigletJohn · 24/02/2013 02:06

is it oil-based?

horse9uk · 24/02/2013 03:19

did u not think about covering the wall in a gold fabric if u pulled it tight enough and fixed it to the wall and u wouldnt get any imperfections from the wall either..theres so many different kinds of fabric out there.

PigletJohn ,
I've just bought a couple of tester pots of Crown Metallic. It is emulsion (so water-based I assume)

I've tried to link below but not v good at links .
Hope it's helpful though
