Solicitor (for conveyancing) can anyone recommend one in North London?

We're about to put our flat on the market.

Can anyone recommend a solicitor in North London (or central or East perhaps) for doing the legal bits?

I was going to use the one I used when I bought the flat, but it would appear that they've gone out of business! (It has been over a decade since I last spoke to them).

Any recommendations would be much appreciated :)

Not in London (i am but the solicitor isn't) we're currently using o'neill patient in Stockport for our sale and purchase and have been very happy with their service and haven't noticed any issues with them not being round the corner if you know what I mean.

We used Meaby and Co and they were great. Sale went through very quickly.

We used Lyndales in Tavistock square. Not the cheapest, but super efficient and they made it as pain-free as possible. The contact there is John Segal.

Wow conveyancing is expensive! £650 + VAT for both the sale and purchase, so £1,300 + VAT. plus extra for searches etc.

Is that normal?! (I've only spoken to two so far).

We used AD Varley in Preston (now part of Quality Solicitors) based on a recommendation and we're in London. They're cheaper than many and very good. No probs with them being so far away. Everything done very smoothly by phone, letter and email. The've had much repeat business from Londonders based on a chance discovery by someone I know.

Absolutely amazing woman in Winchmore Hill - totally brilliant, kept us sane - Pamela Murphy at Schubert Murphy.

Sounds about normal in my experience, sorry. Does sound expensive but prob represents no more than one day of solicitor time for each!

threeleftfeet · 05/07/2012 22:56

The penny's just dropped as to why it seems so expensive. I'm being spectacularly dense!

I've only ever bought one flat. I've never sold one before now. When bought my flat the legal stuff was £500-ish, a decade ago. So a rise to £650 or so isn't actually much.

But it's £1300+ because there are two properties this time. Doh!!! Blush

Oh dear. I passed A-level maths once upon a time. Turns out I can no longer add 1 and 1!

Try Homebuyer Conveyancing .. Good prices and you can quickly see the solicitors that cna help you either by location or nationally. They also give a fixed fee all inclusive price, so no hidden fees.

Depending on your sale and purchase prices will determine how much you actually get charged. £1300 sounds like an average price for buying and selling.
