Bathroom advice please

We are intending to rip out and put in new bath, sink and toilet.

We have been advised (because we dont want to spend loads) to get the basics and spend money on taps and tiles.

If thats is the case, can anyone reccommend good places to get reasonably priced, but good taps? Either sites or shops.

Im thinking tops tiles ,for the (obviously)tiles but am not sure to go to B&Q or baths4all (?) or bathstore for the bath et al.

Everyone has differing ideas. Can anyone help out?

I had mine done last year.

My fitter advised me to go to Bathstore, B&Q etc to look and choose what I wanted, but then get it all on-line, there are loads of companies to order stuff from. I think most of my bathroom came from different companies and I saved a fortune.

He also said don't buy anything from Bathstore as they are very overpriced.

I used, Bella Bathrooms, first bathrooms, my tub.

Good luck.

We got our bath/loo/sink on a cupboard form tescobathrooms.com last year and they are fine, we've still got the taps they came with and they seem to work OK! obviously got loads of points for buying the suite, which we could then use in topps tiles to get the tiles cheaper!

Plumbase is where I sourced quite a lot - Bristan taps and Ideal Standard/Armitage Shanks/Roca sanitaryware. They will do discounts on a cash account. I bought 8mm thick glass shower enclosures/doors from both B&Q & Bathstore sales at half price. Their shower trays were rubbish though so I sourced separate JT40 Fusion Shower Trays for them.

we were told to try bathroom empire. seems pretty reasonable online, and i looked at reviews and they seem to do allright.

I think that it is worth buying the reinforced acrylic baths (Ideal Standard in my case). What I did spend a large chunk of our budget on was the showers (Hansgrohe) and the 8mm thick glass shower doors (B&Q & Bathstore sales). Shop around for tiles - Topp Tiles is not the cheapest. I sourced mine from an independent tile shop and saved up to 50% for the same glass mosaic tile.

If you can plan ahead a bit Bathstore have good sales, but don't buy every little bit and piece from them, as they don't discount a lot of the accessories.

I chose what I wanted from the internet (various manufacturers) and then took the list to my local plumbers' merchant who quoted me for the lot with discounts. Perhaps ask your plumber which local place is decent and friendly?

We had more budget, I guess, but have just done a bathroom and we ended up going to B&Q for the bits but not for fitting which was extortionate. Customer service very good though and the designer was very knowledgeable (even though in the end we didn't use his layout).

How much did your bathrooms end up costing?
Suite, tiles, fittings?

Yorky · 25/06/2012 22:08

I think ours cost about 2500-300, 1500 of which was the guy who did the plumbing, fitting, tiling, plastering....
Totally redone, new bath and loo, sink moved, old electric shower removed, new mixer one fitted, radiator moved, dual fuel heated towel rail installed, underfloor heating installed and tiled over
