What headboard would you choose - are tall ones still "in"?

I have seen this one in Next but am concerned that a) the trend for extra tall headboards might make the bedroom look dated in a couple of years and b) the colour and fabric might look grubby in a couple of years too?

If you could do your bedroom up, what sort of headboard would you chooose?

I wouldn't go for that colour tbh, it won't be wasy to clean being satin I would have thought.

My dsis gave me a very good piece of advice, Go and buy some MDF in the width/height of your choice, get some padding/foam, get some fabric that matches what you would like, (ebay is great for it in shorter amounts) staple gun around the back of your headboard.

Hey presto, you can change it every couple of years if you want Smile
slightly better put here!

Dsis is in the "interiors" industry and she quite often does this for her clients - although probably in a far more arty way than i would with a staple gun Grin

Had a look at your link, poohbearshole, and laughed when I saw the words "mounting brackets" and "batting" - I am not a good DIYer, I really wouldn't want to risk mucking up perfectly good fabric by my clumsy attempts at fastening it to a piece of foam and MDF!

You're probably right about the colour of the Next one. DH reckons it looks like a custard cream anyway. Grin

I just want something neutral ish.

Grey, brown, beigey boringness really.

I want to do something along this style but DH reckons it looks like a giant ryvita stuck to the bed. Grin

I'd say that was more bourbon than ryvita.

Personally I prefer plain old wooden headboards. The cleaning issue puts me off fabric ones.

What is your budget? Sleep room.com have some excellent options.

Yes, I am a little bit Hmm about making it myself as not the best diyer in town Grin but it does beat trying to clean something........ get you with the neutral colour and wanting a bit of padding but be warned that they do come up funny colours after a bit if you are a bed reader or tv watcher sitting up.

We have wooden one on a different bed but ds kept walloping his head on it as he seems to be a headbanger! If it makes any difference ours is not attached to the bed........................but it was purchased pre dc and when I looked at replacing it after an accident it was horrifically expensive so it will have to remain stained..........good luck

We have a leather one just now and I must admit it's comfy and practical. I've also had wooden, which I like.

Wouldn't like to have a material one at all - yeuch, not very hygienic is it.
