Do we need planning permission to knock down part of the house and rebuild to the same footprint?

Title sound more dramatic than reality! We have a utility type space off of our kitchen, which I think originally may have been more of a shed type storage. Currently it's single skin and not damp proof or anything, it's sectioned off by a back door at the moment and it gets pretty cold. Eventually when money allows we want to incorpoate it properly into the kitchen (ie get rid of inside door). All we plan is to re-build the same size space but make it double skinned walls and a better roof (current roof is single sheet glass).

I thought we should be able to re-do this without permission, given it's already there and we won't be extending, just improving. Does anyone know if i'm right?

We may want to put in a small window too, this would look into our garden only (single storey room)

and in addtion we are thinking of knocking out the dining room windows to put in french doors, I assume this doesn't need permission?

Thanks in advance Smile

All the rules are on line - look at your local counciil etc.

You may need to comply to building regs but not need planning permission IYWIM. If you are going to spend that money though it may be worth extending too?

thanks Randommess, we can't really extend as the garden is titchy so no where to go! I have thought about going upwards but would like to do the kitchen first Smile

I shall have a look on the council website. thanks
