Floorboards in downstairs loo?

Would I be mad to have the original boards sanded and varnished in our downstairs loo? Or is this wildy impractical?

The room opens off the hall which also has floorboards and you can see the flooring clearly from the hall.

The loo is quite big and will have a butlers sink it plus storage, so it will be a lootility IYSWIM.
I'd like it to look nice but need to be able to clean it easily too.

We have 2 DSs of 7 and 5, one has a good aim, the other less so!!

we did this in our last house for aesthetic reasons similar to yours.

we had french oak throughout the house and I think it would have looked odd putting another type of flooring down. It was easy to keep clean but I was a bit obsessive about washing splash marks from the sink asap.

I do have to admit that after 8 years when we moved on there was a degree of staining around the join at base of the loo. Not so bad that you would go ew, but there iykwim.

Thanks typical.
I did wonder about staining but I suppose we could reseal the floor if needed.

Just wondering if anyone else had any thoughts?

Could you put slate or some other natural but washable flooring around the loo and have the rest wood? So a row infront of the loo, going back to the wall behind it.

I'm just thinking of young boys and their aim!

Pannacotta · 17/06/2012 22:21

We could do that but I think the room is too small for two types of flooring.
But point taken re boys and their aim, that is what worries me about wood! Slate could look good next to the floorboards in fact, hadnt thought of that.
Thanks.

We have white painted floorboards in our bathroom and ds's aged 7 & 5 and it hasn't been a problem at all. The advantage (or not depending on how you look at it) of white is that we can see any spills so they get wiped up promptly, though probably guests sometimes see them too.

As long as the floor is sealed and you wipe it often it would be fine.

I wouldn't put other flooring around the toilet as it sort of draws attention to why you're having to, iyswim. I had wooden floorboards in a bathroom and they looked lovely.
