If you had carpet and changed to Karndean...

...did you find your doors had a bit of a gap at the bottom?

If so, did this matter and did you do anything about it?

I am currently having it fitted and can't believe I didn't think about this before. Will I have to replace all my internal doors downstairs? Shock

Yes, but we didn't do anything about it.

BiscuitNibbler · 13/06/2012 09:11

Oh that's reassuring - so you didn't find it a problem? I wondered about draughts and noise?

you could easily fit a draught excluder.

jobobpip08 · 13/06/2012 14:15

You could always glue a strip or wood on the bottom if it bothers you, or start saving your old tights to make draught excluders Grin? But never mind that, are you pleased with your flooring?

jobobpip08 · 13/06/2012 14:16

of wood on the bottom

BiscuitNibbler · 13/06/2012 15:57

Draught excluder sounds good - although think I'll give the home-made-tights version a miss!

Really pleased so far - it is still being laid - it looks gorgeous, has really transformed the rooms. I can't stop looking at it and admiring it!

I have Karndean in my kitchen. I cannot believe I was so opposed to it in the beginning, I love it now and yes we do have a gap where the ceramic tiles were lifted but it doesn't bother me.

BiscuitNibbler · 13/06/2012 16:10

We're currently having it laid in every room downstairs apart from the kitchen - we'll do that too when we get the new kitchen shortly.

I was really worried it would not be right for the sitting room and was contemplating carpet, but I am so glad I went for it as it is fabulous. I am totally taken with it.

Do you mind me asking what type of Karndean you've gone for, biscuit?

BiscuitNibbler · 13/06/2012 18:12

Hi Sinking

I've gone for the Van Gogh in Auckland Oak. I can't recommend it highly enough.

You could get the floor layers to put down a self-leveling (that you might need anyway) and build up the level a bit first or even a layer of hardboard?

sherbetpips · 14/06/2012 13:37

yep and havent done anything about it. Bigger problem was the gap between the skirting and the floor which you couldnt see before. Have bought some beading the same colour as the floor to fill the gap.
We had kitchen, dining room, hall and porch done. forgot to do the downstairs loo - d'oh!

Pancakeflipper · 14/06/2012 13:40

Had to get beading in the hall. But the kitchen/dining area was fine. Had it for 6 months and I still love it. In fact off to clean it again. I love cleaning it.

BiscuitNibbler · 14/06/2012 15:57

Skirting seems fine, fortunately, apart from having had to paint it all between the screed going down and the Karndean being laid, as it was two-tone where it had been previously painted to the carpet line!

Pancake - what do you use to clean it? The fitter has just said soapy water and a mop, is that right?
