Would this put you off a house?

We've found a lovely house on a lovely estate with a couple of 'buts'. There is little in the way of a front garden, instead there is a double width driveway that runs past the house (not to the side) and leads to a double garage (which is probably only big enough for one car) which is just past the house. So it probably means there will be one car on the drive most of the time. The main reception rooms are at the rear of the house overlooking the rear garden (which is lovely).

The house is around the £500k mark.

We like the house but are concerned this might put off other buyers (if we moved in the future).

What do you think?

Real mix of opinions! I think we quite like having a front garden and would miss it if we just had a driveway. I think we will have to pass up on this house :(

can you explain why youlike having a front garden, like many others I don't have one and to be honest wouldn't want one. you cant use the space for anything (mine is used for two cars so I don't have to park 3 roads away) but like others have said you have to keep it tidy so the neighbours don't moan. A big back garden and driveway is much more inmportant.

Gardens are beautiful. Tarmac is not.

What rhubarb said.

I can hardly imagine what it is like to be unable to imagine why some people might like to have a front garden. That there might be people who prefer plants and trees to paving slabs ... how astonishing!? Confused.

sue if you are passing, please share a link...

OneLittleBabyTerror · 14/06/2012 21:31

Mintyy me neither. How can anyone look at tarmac and honestly think it looks better than flowers and shurbs Shock.

The thing is, a lot of front gardens are boring. Just a strip of grass, or a grudging shrub or two, guarded by a hedge. Might as wll have a paved Tarmac for two cars instead.

A real front garden is a joy to behold, but so rare to find!

Rhubarbgarden · 14/06/2012 22:32

My front garden is a box parterre filled with roses and cranesbill, edged with cottage garden borders and an ornamental fine lawn in the centre. I was out there deadheading the roses this evening; there were blackbirds singing and insects wafting around, and for a moment I could forget we are but a shriek away from Peckham and Brixton. Swap that for a carparking space? I'd rather sell my soul.

Gosh, Rhubarb, your garden sounds lovely! Could you please come and design mine? Smile

Ok! Smile
