Any Eastbourne MNers out there?

We're considering moving to Eastbourne as London is just not affordable for us anymore. Initially the idea of being near the coast but also being accessible to London appealed to us, but friends have warned us off a bit. So is it possible to get a 4 bed house in a nice area without being bankrupt? Any advice would be gratefully received.

Not me personally, but my db, with his wife and several of their friends have all moved to Old Hastings in the last few years.

They are all very happy living there and say it is so much better than being in London. Some of them have kids and are happy with schools as far as I know.

Most of them, also, still work in London and find the commute okay.

Sorry not to be much help, but hope that gives you some food for thought

You can get a lot for your money in Eastbourne, even more so in Hastings, but Eastbourne is 'older' and therefore quietr/safer imo. I can't imagine people commuting daily though Shock - I travelled a few times, and it takes ages. The tickets are cheap though! Fine if you only occasionally go to London.

Yes agree about commuting to London daily - would be a real pain.

It is not a commuter town really My friend does it but he does his work on the train .It is c2 hours each way in total. Possibly ok if you have somewhere to stay overnight a couple of the nights. Brighton is a better commute but pricier.
Eastbourne is a holiday/retirement town with care work -not just for the elderly- the main type of work. High numbers of very young and very old.The best place in the area is Tunbridge Wells-good commute and excellent schools as still have some grammers and lovely countryside as well

Thanks for the replies, very interesting. We both work from home so commute isn't an issue, but want to be close for visiting friends etc.

Tw will cost vastly more to buy than Eastbourne. I've lived in both towns and would choose Eastbourne every time. Commute is doable, house prices affordable, population is more family based than old, and a mix of people, tw is a bit snotty IMO! There's loads to do in eb for Dcs!
