Rental carpet

So depressing!
We have 85sqm to cover.
The one carpet I choose was £15.00 psqm.
Making it £1400 to do the carpets :(
I went into carpet right this afternoon to check out some cheaper options but quality is pretty eek. Cheaper but just not nice.
My question is -would you Not take on a rental property based on the cheapo carpet??
Or if you are a landlord what are your recommendations??

a local independent will be cheaper than Carpetwrong (that's why they stay in business) and may have some special offers. should offer a good dreal including underlay, smoothedge and fitting (which the big chains may make their money on, after yhey'd tempted you in)

have a look at polypropylene heather twist. hard wearing, easy to clean, difficult to stain. I got some and although not as nice as an 80/20, it feels pretty good, if you have a good underlay.

Thanks piglet.
My original quote was the independent then I went to carpetwrongGrin and became more disheartened. Roll stock was awful!
Plus extra to take carpet away £2 psqm Angry
Costs started to add up for rubbish.
Have been online and ordered some samples and will have to work out some options.

We have got Cormar's primo plus in our living room. It's 100% something man made but it is bleach cleanable and really doesn't look too cheap and nasty. I think you can get it for about £12 per sq meter so a bit cheaper than your quote.

Why carpet in a rental if you don't mind me asking? As a (previous) long-term renter, I would have far preferred some sort of hard flooring as it's so much easier to clean.

My local independent stock this for £11 per sqm. After spending a shedload on wooden flooring, I had to compromise on the 80/20 wool for rest of the carpeted areas but still going for 10mm underlay.

yes, that's what I had in mind. They mention Polyproplylene quite low down in the ad, but when you see "can be cleaned with bleach" you know that's what it is. The slightly mottled/speckly colour is what they call "heather" and means marks don't show much.

Narmada-I desperately want laminate/kardean etc but it's first floor flat and noise could be an issue. Would do top underlay/soundproofing though Smile

I really wouldnt mind cheap carpet. My first preference would be a hard floor, my second an easy to clean carpet - the main thing that put me off my current house, and is the bane of my life now, is the light coloured and fairly new carpets. When you rent, you can be chucked out of your home and lose your deposit for staining the carpet :-(
