Hi, I've booked a week off work to decorate DD's bedroom. Have bought the paint and wallpaper. Has anyone got any tips to make the process as stress free as possible? I'm not a complete novice, having painted the downstairs loo(!), it's the wallpapering i'd really like help with. She wants 2 walls painted, and two walls papered. Which should I do first? And can anyone recommend a good masking tape, which won't allow the paint to bleed under it onto the ceiling/skirting? Thanks in advance.

PS which is better for painting? A roller or a paint pad?

If you can empty the room it will make it much easier to get everywhere you need to.

Don't skimp on the prep work, sand and clean the woodwork. Fill any holes or cracks with polyfiller, if you have any cracks along the skirting or ceiling fill with builders caulk.

The non stick masking tape holy grail is a search I have found fruitless. I have bought some of that frog tape, but not long ago someone on here said that it isn't that good, but the yellow frog tape is. So thats what I would buy next!

I would paint first and then wallpaper. I like a roller rather than a pad but I think that might be personal taste, I've seen good results with those pads. Don't forget to cover the floor well if using a roller as it can spit a fine mist everywhere!

I have never wallpapered, so I'm affraid I can't really help there!

Agree with Oreo, prep is the key and take your time. A rushed job never looks as good as you'd like it to. Good luck!!

When you wallpaper, if there's a light switch or socket on that wall, loosen the screws so you can tuck a bit of the paper behind.
Instead of trying to just cut round the socket iyswim?

It gives a neater finish.

Google how to wallpaper for detailed instructions - there are quite a few tricks to it that you might not think of if you just use your common sense. e.g, whereabouts on the wall to start, how to match patterns, go round corners etc, also lining up the wallpaper with a true vertical rather than relying on the walls being straight...
