Help - I need a reality check!!

I live in a pretty central part of London - so expensive. Last year I was finally in a position to move from a flat to a house. At the time I was so excited by the prospect that I didn't mind the fact that, despite spending a fortune, I would only be able to get something a bit bigger than my flat and with only a tiny garden.

But now, after reading all the threads about people's play rooms, 5 bedrooms, etc, I feel a bit disappointed by my tiny three bed Victorian terrace.

Is it normal to to feel that way? Do we always want something bigger, better? Btw, I don't think I will ever be able to afford to move again, so this is probably my forever house!!!!

Oh most normal yes!

The trick is to close your eyes to other peoples situations (easier said than done) as someone will always have something better than you and that way madness lies!

I catch myself doing it often and have to remind myself I have the best I can get within my means and I must therefore be content.

Try to count your blessings - corny but it helps. :)

yes, normal.

i live in a 3 bed house with 3 kids. 1 bed we use as a study / bedroom for baby. my friends have palaces with suites for each kid (or it feels like that).

i just block it out and enjoy my home.

Yup normal!

The grass is always greener and all that. I think we always aspire to bigger and better things, but we have what we have. You also have to think that you live in central london - many people would love to have a house in central london no matter how small! They might have a huge house up north that wouldn't fund a one bed in central london. Its all relevative.

Thanks ladies. I think I do drive myself a little mad by always comparing myself to others....

Who do you think is more likely to 'let slip' the details of their home: a) The owner of a Georgian 5 bed detached in Surrey or b) The owner of an ex local-authority 2 bed flat in Tower Hamlets? Put it this way, I'd never even come across the term 'stealth boast' until I found MN Wink

Ha, ha, good point alabama!!!

Disappointed by my 3 bedroom victorian house in central London

Grin

Well, tell you what, if it's that disappointing I'll swap with you, sight unseen!

I have a large and pretty house in a shitty area. I would rather have a small house in a nice area, but my DH won't hear of it. It's all swings and roundabouts.

LaurieFairyCake · 06/06/2012 07:19

Can I just gently rib you about your "central London 3 bed house".

If I had bollocks you could have one for that Grin - plus the kid, the dh (good at sex and lifting stuff from high shelves) and all my jewellery.

Some of us (me) will never, ever have what youve got and if I had space in my head I'd be jealous.

Just don't create the space to be jealous.
