Has anyone else moved into a house they weren't sure about???

Hi, I am just wondering if anyone else on here has ever bought a house that they didn't feel 100% on.

Briefly, we made an offer on a house and have are moving into (it is all completed) that was a bit out of the area that we really wanted as it was more affordable and we could get more for our money. It probably means our DS will have to move school (he's in reception). I love the school he is at and feel very sad about him leaving. It's all to do with catchments and the fact that his sister would probably not get in, and I wanted them to go to the same school.

Ever since we exhanged contracts I am feeling like we made a huge mistake, and why did we continue with the sale. Part of the reason that I did continue with the whole process was that I am quite an indecisive person and I wasn't sure if I'd be 100% about any house, wherever it was.

The house we have brought is the only house that I saw (after looking at a lot), that seemed spacious for what we could afford, had a decent size garden, the vendors have done a whole load of work, so new kitchen etc. I walked in and thought that I loved it. But it's hard to know when you have only seen something for all of 1/2 hour in total.

I don't know if I am just nervous about the move and sad about the school and will love the house...or if I will not like the house....Bloody hell, feel a bit mad. And it's so expensive to move...who knew??!!! this is the first house i have brought.

Sorry so long, don't know what I'm asking really....

I did! I thought the house I'm now living in was horrible on first viewing. It is a50s semi and needed totally gutting. What swung it for me was the bargainous price and a desire to have a go at renovation. 3 years on and I love it! We are very slowly making it all our own. I had moved into a totally new area so know how it feels to wonder if it's right, but it just takes time and you'll find new things that your old place didn't have.

In contrast, when I bought my first house with ex p, I must have looked at 30 plus houses waiting for the tingles. I got the tingles, stumped up a massive mortgage and promptly lost the tingles for my ex. Bye bye dream house. I'm 100 per cent happier now.

I don't have dc so can't help with the school that much, I expect that will be a wrench. But, having thrown everything in the air I do think things tend to land just as they should. Treat yourself to some home mags and get excited Smile

Yep! I loved the house but hated the area. I sold it within 12 months.

As the tv program said - location location location is all important... I Niw know that I'd rather not have the house of my dreams but the location of my dreams :)

It's the first house you've bought and like almost everyone buying property you had to compromise somewhere. For you it has been the area. You could just as easily be sitting feeling nervous about moving into a house that might be too small or with no parking etc. There's always something.

If you loved the house when you viewed it there is no reason why you won't love living there. Focus on the good stuff

Have you seen the new school that your DS would move to? Maybe it will be even better.

Thank you for the replies!! ahhhtetley - cool name by the way....yes we could always move if I hate it. Hate to pay all those fees again though so soon! But we'll see, I'll only know when I move.

I think its normal to feel like that, we secretely hoped the sale on our home would fall through!
it's been fab we love it!

oshuk · 31/05/2012 20:48

Yep, and I still don't like it. More about location than the house though.

Deadsouls · 31/05/2012 20:57

monkeymoma ha ha...that is exaxtly what we kept hoping!! I wanted our buyer to pull out!! But it's heartening to hear that you love it now!

oshuk - that's a bummer...do you think you will move again?

It's so hard to know my true feelings about it, as I am SO SO indecisive, and I never know if something is my gut feeling or not

That's the thing that hurt, not the inconvenience of moving but the costs of stamp duty, estate agent fees, solicitors etc etc but I'm glad we did sell up tho.. Much happier in a smaller house, but in a lovely area.

I'd love to move again but we would never get such a good house in another area for a similar price. We don't see that much that grabs us to be honest (property porn aside). We aren't in a bad area by any means, but on the road makes the house less desirable to some.
