Is it illegal to contact your buyer to find out why they have gone quiet?

I suspect it is. Due to exchange yesterday, moving into the perfect house for us.

But, start of last week, our buyer (who up til then had said they were cash buyers, and we accepted their offer in Jan. They have been back twice to measure up) have in fact come clean about how they need to either sell a property in order to buy ours.

They told our estate agent they desperately still want to buy our house - there were even tears - but every attempt by agent to contact them since then has failed. I don't know how hard the agent is trying.

So, after radio silence, we have had to put our house back on the market. I don't know if we will be able to sell quickly enough to buy the other house.

Our 'buyer' has an unusual name, so have found out exactly where she lives.

Its illegal to call her and ask why she has let us down so abruptly isn't it?

Damn. So upset, cross, out of pocket, let down.

No, it's not illegal. But if she's lied to everyone already about her circumstances then it's not going to achieve much by talking to her directly - she'll just give you another story. You might (briefly) feel better by shouting at her down the phone but it won't get your house sold any quicker. I'd write her off and start again. Sorry, sounds like a horrible situation, hope you get a better buyer quickly.

I don't think it is illegal but might be best not to call around or telephone. I might be tempted to write a letter as calm as possible urging them to get in touch and explaining that their lack of contact means they are forcing you back on to the market. If nothing else i would ask them to explain what has happened so that you can move on. Must be blooming anmoying for you though. Such a shame that they lied in january and have wasted your time. Am indignant on your behalf :(

Oh how annoying! I'd be upset angry and annoyed too, especially as you were at the last bit...I can understand your thinking, but it might not be a useful approach.

Presumably if you were due to exchange, your solicitor must have their solicitors details - could you ask your solicitor to contact them and ask them to chase their client to find out what's happening?

I think you've done the right thing putting it back on the market, hopefully you'll get a new nice non lying buyer quickly

Thanks for your replies. I am hoping that Jubilee weekend will bring lots of eager buyers to my seaside town. We all used the same solicitors, its all so frustrating...
