Window film that reflects suns heat

Has anyone used this kind of self adhesive window film which states it deflects up to 70% of the sun's heat as well as UV rays etc. Our baby grandson's room gets full sun all day and even with blinds and curtains closed all day we still can't get the temp under about 25 degrees at the moment. Just wondering whether its worth shelling out for this stuff!!

I'd be interested in this, same problem with my sons room.

I got some from Lidl about a month ago and have done part of my living room window with it. I have to say it's made a huge difference to the overwhelming heat I usually get with a bit of sun.

OOh! Lidl - never thought about looking there - i'll go and check it out this week!! How much money are we talking about? Its only a smallish window about 125 cm x 150 cm

Great thanks! Will have a look :)

You might be lucky if Lidl has some left. It was £5.99 and the sizes of a roll are 76 x 220 cm. Oh and if you do find some at Lidl the instructions are on the roll of film (took me a while to find it :) )

We had it done about 5 years ago and it definitely helps (a company came and fitted it for all our back windows - it wasn't that expensive, but more than £5.99!!). I wouldn't say it is a miracle as they do still get hot, but it certainly is better. I can also say that 5 years on it is still as good as new.

What company was it?

As a temporary measure, tin foil works well! We have completely covered window openings with it - couldn't open window, but worked wonders for dark cool room!

I've heard that this reflective film can cause the glass in double glazing to crack. I'd be interested to know if this is true.

EclecticShock · 30/05/2012 20:26

Actually, I'm interested in the consequences of all that hear too...

On the website i looked at it different options for different kinds of glass in windows - you choose your option accordingly - some you have to put on outside of glass because of the heat build up! The window we want to do is above a conservatory so a bit more difficult for complete diy dunces like us anyone to do! Weather has changed for the worse so we've got a bit more time to try and sort it out!

I'll have to dig out the company - I'm sure it had a 'sun' in the name somewhere.

Ours was fitted on the inside, of double glazed panes they get very hot and no cracking here. My main concern was that the film would peel or get scratched but it's not been a problem in anyway at all.

My curtain maker recommended them as we didn't want to bulk up the curtains by having a blackout lining.

I bought some solar safety film from www.tradewindowfilms.co.uk and it made a real difference to my conseravatory, it made it a lot better and less stuffy, I would recommend them to anyone. Next day delivery too:)

PigletJohn · 25/06/2012 12:05

how easy to fit? I'm thinking about bubbles or creases, and trimming the edges

ooooohhhmaybegossip · 25/06/2012 20:56

I worked for an Australian & he ended up importing a film from his home country due to the extent of the sunlight they get over there. He also bought blinds which blocked out the UV rays & stopped the furniture fabric fading.

Not much of a productive comment, sorry, but don't know if it may lead onto something beneficial to someone.
