Karndean - does the wood look real(ish) and is it as tough as it says it is?

I am considering Karndean for my new kitchen/diner and have been looking at the wood effect and the tile effect. Has anyone got this and what type did you go for. Are you happy with it?

I am considering French Oak (Van Gogh) but also like the Opus tile range.

Do you think the wood looks realistic?

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

BiscuitNibbler- that seems to be about the standard price for fitting. I like the Auckland Oak, good luck with it. I am still waiting for my samples to arrive so I can compare them with my worktop!

I came on here to post about suggestions for flooring in my hallway and lounge. I think this may just fit the bill. Have never heard of it before. Is it easy to maintain? Also, would you all recommend this over laminate or wooden floors? Sorry for hijack (too lazy to post my own thread!). I need something really durable due to 6 year old boy who likes to scooter in the house!

Alargeglassofred · 02/06/2012 20:31

! Fab fab stuff. Looks amazing. SO easy to maintain and that's coming from a slatern !

IHeartKingThistle · 09/06/2012 21:21

Update - it's here! Looks really really good, more varied and natural in colour than I was expecting. Not cold, not too slippy. Kids have been scooting round on it and I haven't been worried about it being ruined!

We'll have to see how it copes long term but it looks FAB!

york, we used a registered fitter and it was approx £18 per sm. It is exp but included the ply underlay and glue etc. I might be wrong but I think it needs to be a reg. fitter to get the guarantee.

SkiBumMum · 09/06/2012 21:44

sweet have pm'd you too.

SkiBumMum · 09/06/2012 21:45

We have just had engineered bamboo Antico Spacia. Looks fab.

SkiBumMum · 09/06/2012 21:46

waitingforgodot you need to lay on screeded floor. They take up existing and put some vinyl stuff down. Not too painful a process.

We have it in our kitchen-diner. It is the Reclaimed Maple plank look, can't remember which range. I love it. Looks great, nice underfoot, easy to clean. There are however a couple of scratches which irritate me (only when I'm down on my knees scrubbing dried on Weetabix!) - I think from getting a small stone trapped under a chair leg.

We used a registered fitter but shopped around to find a much better cost. I'm sorry - but I can't remember the costs offhand. I'd love to have it throughout our downstairs but the cost was scary and this isn't our forever house.

SkiBumMum
is the antico spacio different to Karndean?

I've had a very disappointing experience with Karndean. We chose beautiful tiles from the Opus range (supposedly the commercial range) as we wanted a hard wearing floor. We spent over £1000, it was installed 8 months ago. It started scratching almost as soon as it was laid. It's taken until today for the Karndean rep to come and see the scratches which are so bad now that I expect we will have to replace the floor within the next 12-18 months. Today was extraordinary, he suggested velvet tabs for the bottom of our chairs, that we are using the wrong type of mop and that we should only be using their speciality floor cleaner. This is supposed to be commercial flooring - it's not. It can't handle a family of 4 in their slippers. I was expecting to be told that this was a bad batch of tiles or that they had not been sealed, I had not expected to be told that it's less robust that the cheap laminate that was in our previous kitchen for 6 years with barely a scratch.

Karndeen - I am happy to discuss this with you, your rep came today Elaine & Alan, M16

I have to say I don't think it looks like real wood at all. It looks like 'posh' laminate but I'm assuming its more hardwearing. So if you are happy with the look then go for it. I personally would go for tiles in a kitchen but it is an increasing to have wood effect flooring in kitchens.

Hi
I know its an old thread but I would like to know how is your Karndean now since 2012 please. Any scratches, damaged etc? We have 5 children 3 teenagers 2 toddlers and 1 dog. Thank you for your feedback

applesandpears33 · 23/08/2019 23:14

We've had wood effect karndean in our bathroom for about 10 years now. I can't remember what range it was from. There are a few scratches on it that you can see if the light shines on it but otherwise it has done really well. No shrinking, lifting or fading. I think wood would have scratched too so don't think I can complain about the few scratches it has gained.

FeltCarrot · 24/08/2019 08:02

We have had Karndean down in our dining room and hall for about 13 years now, lots of scratches (no dog) and a few furniture indent marks but to be fair we haven’t really looked after it properly. I want to have real oak flooring put down now though.
