As much as i prefer wooden framed windows we live in the coldest arse end of the uk and are looking for practical windows to keep in the heat. So we are thinking of replacing our oldish, prob bottom of the range wooden windows for upvc.

11 windows , 9 of them 600x1200 and 3 small bathroom windows around 600x300.

Anyone any idea how much we would be looking at, ballpark figure?

I think I heard recently about £1,000 a window average. The big firms who employ well-paid salesmen will perhaps tell you list price is three times that but they have a special offer of only double if you sign up today. Never do that.

Get some quotes for wooden ones as well, as they're nicer.

Please don't buy a plastic front door.

Our house, 4 years ago. 1930's semi.
2 bays, big bathroom window, 2 small bathroom windows, 2 big bedroom windows, office window, cloakroom window, side door, kitchen door, kitchen window, door into conservatory, 3m 3m conservatory onto half wall with sloping roof
£13,000
last year new porch £1900
we have NOT replaced our nice wooden front door.

My parents have wood framed double glazing as my dad is a snob aspiring middle class :o despite being cockney born and bred. I don't think it cost them the extortionate amout you'd expect, and they have a big 4 bed detatched.
Probably worth looking into!

Our tiny 2 bed semi (4 windows inc 1 huge bay, and 2 doors) cost £2500 7 years ago. I think there's a lot of bargains to be had atm, just make sure you get at least 3 quotes!

We're having 5 windows replaced including one big one (266cm wide) and one small non opening one for about £1600. Small local independent firm.

Find out the local firms who actually manufacture their own windows on site - expect they will have a showroom - visit to see what types of UPVC they are making. They will be competitive and then, once you have chosen - haggle! Prices will vary wrt to size and the style of window - Georgian external barred sash is the most expensive ime. I have installed these argon cavity filled windows after doing some research. Admittedly, they are top notch but after a few months of living with single pane glazing - it wasn't something I was going to scrimp on. (I'm compromising in other areas of my house renovation - think plain white bathroom tiles!) In reality, you will settle for what your budget allows so shop around.
