Where did you buy decent packing boxes?

We're moving abroad back to Geneva in the summer, and although we have no furniture (have been living with my Mum), we've decided to get a small van removal to take our stuff. This means packing it ourselves which is fine.

Can anyone recommend where to buy decent packing boxes? I know you can get them all over including eBay, but I prefer not to order blindly. Also, how many did you use? We have no furniture, but plenty of other bits, clothes, toys, books, files and the usual housewares for me and 4 kids (DH has already gone on ahead to Geneva).

Thanks!

Rather than ebay go direct to a wholesaler and buy double thickness boxes for strength. I'd say probably about 50cm all round, would give you plenty of room but should not be overly heavy.

For my business we use www.jaffabox.com but if you search for packaging wholesale a whole load will come up.

We used a storage unit for a few months in order to declutter our house for sale, so we used The Store Room but obviously there are loads of storage companies.

They have their boxes in the reception, they have them made up so you can instantly see what size they are rather than guessing, and they sell them flat so you can fit loads in your car.

In the past we have bought from a "boxes direct" type company and they've been fine, also our local self storage places sell boxes in different sizes, bubble wrap, tape and specialist things like wardrobe boxes (might not have room for those in your van though!).

It seems expensive but so worth it to have things properly packed!

Thanks for the replies. We've got two storage places near us, so am going to go and see what they sell there.

Now down to the hard work of sorting and thinning out!

we got lads of boxes for free on freecycle (very good conditions) and we got some for free with the removal company (ask them if it is included in the quote)
.

If your after good quality removal boxes and your local to norwich give east anglian light haulage a call they do strong double walled packing boxes cheap as chips I had crisp box size boxes and they were only £1.50 each which was about 2 quid cheaper than a local storage company's single walled flimsy boxes

forgot to mention I even got free packing tape with the boxes and it actually stayed stuck unlike the pound shop tape!!

I got mine from a1box online. I needed absolutely lots - probably about 70 or so in total for a 2 bed flat... but I have a lot of stuff! Books and things take up a lot of boxes because they are heavy and you don't want to make boxes too heavy to carry.
I didn't find their packing tape any good though and bought some 3m tape from WHSmiths in a panic instead and that worked really well.
