in ourprevious flat, our kitchen was from Howdens but we bought the oak worktop from IKEA. i dont understand the problem with the depth of the worktop?
in the new flat we are in, it is an ikea kitchen... for the worktop - do you mean if for example you have a freestanding washing machine instead of an in-built one, it sticks out? is that what you mean?
but then if you get deeper worktop, the units are going to be far away under theworktop?
sorry if i am a little thick... we want a new kitchen (this one is too small, too old) and im considering ikea

standard worktop depth is 600mm, this will give a small overhang on most units. IKEA units are a little deeper so their worktops need to be 606 to get the same sort of overhang.

if you have wonky walls the units are not going to fit flush to the wall which means you can be left with a gap to the rear. we got 620 worktops which means the units can sit slightly out from the wall to allow for uneveness whilst still overlapping at the front edge

so howdens units with IKEA worktop work, don't think it would work with IKEA units and a howdens worktop

tostaky, IKEA worktops are 62cm deep, their units are 60 deep. Normal units are 58 deep, hence worktops are 60cm. You need an overhang because the doors won't look good if you can see the gap. What you get though, is extra cupboard space.

Your washing machine will stick out less with an IKEA kitchen than it will with a normal one. IKEANS put their washing machine in the bathroom though...

annalouiseh yes, they do. SAME SUPPLIER. They might be different, but the quality/manufacture is identical.

misspolly...we just used to warn people that they are high maintenance, that's all!! If you look after them, they'll be fine, but seriously, compared to say, normal laminate or corian, you really do have to invest time to keep them looking as good as new. That's all! The DOMSJO is a lovely sink however!
