Had a joiner in today to remove some old fittings before a room is plastered. He's done this, but damaged a LOT of plasterwork, which the plasterer is going to charge £100 extra to fix (I'm not querying the plasterer's fee as he's a decent bloke and it's obviously a lot of work).
Secondly the joiner damaged a lampshade which was well out of his way.
So, the joiner's original fee was agreed prior to starting the work at £100. The plastering repair will cost £100, the lampshade £20ish.
I've not paid him yet, what do I do? If it was poor work I'd ask him to come back and finish it to an acceptable standard before paying him but in this situation I can't do that. Cut my losses, pay him and use someone else to finish the work? Pay him less (but how much?), explaining why? I know £100 is not a lot of money for some people but I have a pretty tight budget. Help, don't know what to do!
