Now, I love a bit of idle property window shopping as much as the next person. I've always had a thing for the South Hams area of Devon and these dreary days have made me hanker for my childhood summers there.

I chanced upon this beauty while browsing rightmove:

I am trying to imagine the current owner: mid-50s couple, one of whom is into pole dancing maybe....

Yes they are mid fifties, were hippies in their youth and have stumbled through life making their living.

They like a little drink after 10am onwards, he has a big 'tache and drinks real ale, she has long floaty hair, wears kaftans and drinks 70's cocktails.

She is currently making her living teaching ballet from the back bedroom.

They have grandchildren who are very pink and girly, which rankles with them but they have conceeded and overdosed on the bright pink paint on offer at a carboot sale.

mathanxiety · 16/05/2012 04:11

They don't know where to stop with the paint and tend to use up what's left in the can hence the bathroom accents and the ballet studio. Also the yellow floor and mantel in the bedroom am guessing that the room is filled with some sort of golden glow when the sun shines through, like their own little Stonehenge of sorts. It's possible she made the matching curtain, valance and lampshade.

The house on the outside looks lovely. But, when inside, OMG, what a shocker. They really haven't got much style really. How they expect to sell it is beyond me. I hope they have slashed the price, as it needs a lot of work.
I'd say, a retiring couple, who had daughters into ballet, they have since moved out, and the couple want to downsize, so their daughters who are in crappy jobs, as they spent too much time arsing about dancing, can't buy properties, and they need the money for them!

It has lots of potential to be made into something really nice!

Rip out the gas fire in every grate, the bar and paint it in pale colours.

Maybe the Mrs is the dancer and teaches lessons

LittlePandaBear · 16/05/2012 10:55

I have Property Bee and it shows that the house has been on the market since May 2008! Was originally on for £395K so not dropped the price much.

It doesn't look very homely, the living room makes me shudder!

OrmIrian · 16/05/2012 11:07

Could be lovely. What it looks like now is not really that important - it's their taste not anyone else's.

narmada · 16/05/2012 11:58

Oreocrumbs I think you have nailed it!
Ormirian, is it your house? Wink

OrmIrian · 16/05/2012 12:07

No! Grin

Goodluckcharlielover · 16/05/2012 21:38

oreocrumbs - you have it so spot on - are you sure you don't have inside knowledge are they oreo relatives? Did you notice the dressing room mirror lights in the bathroom too Grin

Mother2many · 16/05/2012 21:41

To me...it's a beautiful home... maybe I should take pictures of mine and really shock ya!!!! lol

grimblesmother · 16/05/2012 22:56

I rather like it. It has personality, it's interesting. Better than endless neutrals, bits of twig and bloody hearts everywhere.

grimblesmother · 16/05/2012 22:57

But where are the books?

narmada · 16/05/2012 23:26

agree endless neutrals, hearts and signs saying 'love' and 'home' are almost as bad. Almost.

Funny you should say that about the books - I thought the same. Some homes (whisper it) really. don't. have. any. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh.

I don't get this MN obsession with books on show in houses. You buy a book, you read it, you charity shop it and then buy another. Why would you want to have hundreds of them collecting dust on show in your home?

bronze · 17/05/2012 08:39

Because you want to read them again. Or someone else in your family might want to read it.
I can't afford to buy stuff then get rid so easily so I tend to buy books I'll treasure I use the library for just trying stuff

Anyway could
someone please link it for me

captainmummy · 17/05/2012 08:40

God what a gorgeous garden! And the house must be a lot bigger than it looks from outside - to fit in study/dance floor/shower room/bar etc

oreocrumbs · 17/05/2012 09:05

Link.

Goodluckcharlielover I couldn't possibly reveal my source Wink.

Actually, looking at it again to do that link it has rather grown on me Confused

bronze · 17/05/2012 09:06

Thank you
Off to nose

bronze · 17/05/2012 09:08

It's a nice house. Needs making to taste but it's not horrendous. Oddly I quite like the yellow floor

mathanxiety · 17/05/2012 20:30

I've been looking at the pictures and I am guessing that the ballet studio runs from front to back on one side, with the kitchen possibly in the addition right at the back, the strange high room with the mezzanine ish thing (looks like a converted coach house) possibly back a bit and to the right of the kitchen if you look at the back view; wish there was a floor plan.

LittlePandaBear · 17/05/2012 21:38

There is a floor plan! Click 'floorplan' the right tab next to the description under the photos Grin

mathanxiety · 18/05/2012 19:39

Doh! thank you

The downstairs layout is terrible and not sure what could be done about it with load bearing walls, plumbing, and the stairs being where it is.

If you were in the kitchen you would apparently have to go all the way through the breakfast/bar and through the studio to get to the downstairs loo...
