Looking at buying a flat in Chalk Farm - if you live there, what do you like about it and what do you dislike? Any recommendations re shopping, pubs, restaurants etc

Thanks

We used to rent there - v near tube.

Good:

  • there is a lot of choice within walking distance: fancypants primrose hill, noisy camden, useful high st of kentish town, posh stuff up in Hampstead
  • So LOADS of restaurants and cafes and little shops of all different types. Would recommend Marine Ices for reasonably priced good pizza and ice cream, Lanka for fancy cakes, Chamomile for decent brunch on the pavement, MAP cafe for good cheap homely salad and cakes
  • good recently refurbed sports centre on Prince of Wales road
  • lots of little playgrounds (antrim gardens, chalcot square, talacre gardens)
  • big Morrisons for shopping, but also Earth wholefoods shop in Kentish Town, good butchers on Englands Lane, fishmonger in Primrose hill, Pomona - nice (expensive) little food shop up towards Belsize park and markets in Inverness Street in Camden so lots of choice for food shopping.
  • Northern line pretty good now. You also have overground from Kentish Town west

Bad:

  • it can be quite noisy and hectic depending on where you are. We used to hear a lot of shouting and sirens at night, and if you're near Chalk Farm Rd then v busy on weekend.
  • not much else that I can think of. not sure about schools if thats a consideration.

What I really appreciated was the central-ish location, having so many different shops and facilities easily accessible and being near the lovely green spaces of Primrose Hill/Hampstead Heath/Regents Park. We ended up buying somewhere a bit further out to get more space and now we're here I miss some of that but appreciate the quietness and more relaxed feel.
