Can I have a bike shed in the front garden?

Or does it just say Rob Me

Our bikes are in the garden shed but would be much handier to keep them in the front.

DH uses garage for his car which is annoying.

I've wondered about this as our front is completely unused whilst the rear garden is constant chaos - I wondered if you needed planning permission Confused

Hmm I've just looked, you need planning permission Sad

Look at this guide and see if you agree Confused

So you want an empty shed in your front garden because, sure as night brings day you're not going to have bikes in there for very long

I depends where you can camofalage the shed with a lot of evergreen bushes - I would suggest laurels of different variety to grow around the shed. I doubt your insurance company will be to happy about paying out if the bikes are insured and they get stolen...I think they will wiggle out of that one.

Oops. Just installed a trimetals secure-a-cycle in our front garden. Only shed covered by house insurance. Pricey but comes with all locks etc. Takes a whole day to assemble from flat pack tho :(

I worried about it attracting attention but it has been up a year without any incident. The neighbours have one which is the less secure version for 2 years with no attention either.

I dont know the details but it is under 5ft high so may not be covered by the permitted dev outbuildings rules. Certainly there are lots about in london front gardens tucked behind hedges no problem.

Dh was insistent and i resisted for a long time. Regret that now as bikes can be out and ready in minutes without the old hassle of getting thro the house. It is a fab product - and i live in an area where anything unsecured in the front garden is taken within the hour......

Link please tricot!

I'm planning on growing a hedge all around our front with a gate so def a future option for us...

Here we go:

Although we are now quietly worrying about our non-compliant "outbuildng".....

Oh yes - to get full security rating you need to cast a concrete slab - I think ours was 100mm thick without reinforcement. Don't think it could be much shallower because of the depth needed for the holding down/expansion bolts.
